I had dinner there tonight the service was excellent the steak was perfect, even the vegetables were good and I don t like vegetables if you are in Sonora you must eat at this Steak house it is the best. When I come back I will eat again. I am not sure where the people ate that gave this place a bad review.
In the future, refrain from using velveeta to describe the cheese fondue...Gus's cheese fondue is made with three types of cheeses (take a wild guess which are the three most popular cheeses you buy at the store, duh) and lastly the right amount of beer. And there you have it. The procedure and amounts are secret. So if you have tried the fondue and post online that it's velveeta, you need to be smacked upside the head.
Think twice about eating at this place, it's the worst ever!!!! One star is too generous.....
Upon entering you are faced with a dirty nasty smelling carpet, which should have been a clue to turn and run. Then it all began with a waitress who had zero personality, no welcoming greeting, never smiled, seemed ready and wanting to be anywhere else but working at Gus' Steak house. We were given a basket of bread and a fondue of melted Velveeta cheese, awful! While trying to figure out why the tri-tipped steak I ordered, in the two for one early bird special, was so thin small and unflavored, I asked the waitress for some ketchup to add some sort of flavor. She never brought it, nor did she ever come back to see how we were doing... During the course of our short stay in this restaurant, some guy across the way started yelling at Gus about he being too hot and complaining about the flies. He made us feel completely uncomfortable, but he was right, the air conditioner was not on or not working and the flies were such an annoying thing to have to be swatting at to keep them off our food!!! The portion of tri-tipped steak was the thinnest smallest piece of meat I've ever seen, embarrassing I would think for anyone to serve to a customer, then actually charge for it??? The waitress finally returned to our table after we ate as much of our meal as we could, and she announced we had desert coming with our meal, I said we'd pass and please just bring the check. We wanted to leave as soon as possible! My wife and I both agreed, to never eat at this place ever again and we HIGHLY recommend finding somewhere else to eat food!!!!! This is the worst service, worst environment, worst food ever!!!
I am very disappointed in the service and food. In the beginning the food was good and service amazing. I took my family in and waited and waited for a drink order to be taken....then waited for our food order to be taken. I ordered a filet mignon with all the goodies, mushrooms and a sauce i was disappointed when i ordered well done (yes i agreed charred was the way i wanted even said yes when i was asked if the chef could butterfly it) and i got RED in the middle usually i leave it and eat around it..but the waitress came and said they could cook up a new one..after everyone else was finished with there food my filet mignon was returned and to my dismay it was the one i returned with the creamy sauce rinsed off and dry and nasty as could be. While the owner was nice and agreed it was not up to the standard for a 24+ meal and compensated by taking the steak of the check...yes i still paid for the rest of the nasty meal that i didnt eat, i can say i will not be returning. Sadly the wait staff spend more time gossiping and talking about what party is where, when they should be serving customers, but the kitchen staff are lacking in producing good quality meals for the price they charge.
Gus's is a very cute little place. (WARNING: There are people that get very drunk, and swear a lot, so be careful when bringing your kids here.)I ordered the Early Bird special, and was happy with my meal. Another member of the party ordered a Tri-Tip, and enjoyed that as well. The portions are very big, and they have a wide selection of sides. Our waitress was new, and had another waitress help her out, but she was really good. Our food was delivered within 5-10mins, and the fondue pleased us before our meal. We would come back again.
This place is excellent. Excellent food and service. Food is always fresh and the steaks are to die for. Dont forget the early bird specials, two dinners for twenty dollars!! Which includes cheese fondue, soup or salad, entree and dessert!!! Cant find a much better deal for outstanding food. Again, the service is amazing, very nice and knowledgable servers. I would highly recommend this establishment!
Honestly the food is very overated and the service has been horrible since it was Sonora Joes. It has always been slow and the servers are very unprofessional. Last two times I have been there the servers have used very profane language. Poor language does not bother me, I us quite a bit of it myself, but when you are in probably the most high end restraunt in the county you expect a little professionalism. The food is not bad, but for the price you are paying it could be better. You can get the same food at Applebys for half the price.
My husband and I went for our 16th wedding anniversary. We were placed at a wobbly center, teeny weeny table in the middle of what seemed like a million people. We could hardly hear each other talk. The table was not nearly big enough to hold all the dishes they brought to it, and had to keep taking things quickly off so we wouldn't knock them off reaching for our drink.
The food was okay.....not worth the $100 we paid for 2 people. Very Very nice owner.....this review is not about him...
So...we will not be returning....sorry
