Description

This original Bay Area Middle Eastern joint looks like a beat-up drive-in, but it is one of San Jose's oldest foreign restaurants. In fact, it is a landmark. Since the 1960s, the falafel and gyros have been some of the best anywhere, and hardly anything on the menu is over $7. People from all over the world have visited this place, and many repeat customers have been coming for 15 to 20 years. It is highly recommended and they accept only cash.

Excellent Food

I love this place. I eat here at least once a week. Service with a smile everytime. The food is excellent especially their signature falafel's. As a vegetarian its a great place to get a good nutritious meal on the go.

The oldest Falafel place that I know of. I have been going for 36 years. Never once was I disappointed, and always a real treat to eat.

The best falafels I have ever had. Try them with their famous banana shakes and a side of Hummus. Delicious food, friendly service, and great value!

The best Falafel in the world

I have been eating at FDI since 1969 and have tried falafels all over the world. Nobody does them as well. After college I lived in Seattle for a few decades and am now in Salt Lake City. I cannot make a trip to the Bay Area without diverting to San Jose for just one more falafel. The world will miss Anton S. Nijmeh, but this restaurant is a profound legacy by which to remember this gentle man.

Awesome Food

Being a vegetarian, this is one of the few eating places I dont have to strike a compromise on taste. The falafel + milk-shake combo rocks. A side order of pita chips adds to the music playing on your tastebuds. The service is fast and though you'll see a long line-up, the wait is very short. Make sure you ask for some of their sauces on the side.

Amazing place!

I found this place by accident and was hungy for a snack, so I stopped. I was a little put off at first because it looks old and not the least bit fancy. I was amazed at the line that formed just after I arrived (close to noon.) But service was like lightning. Had to share a table, but the couple were super nice. Best falafel (and I've eaten a lot of falafel!!) Love it!

Chicken in a pita!

Falafel's Drive In is a very no frills shack of a place but the food more than makes up for it. Their falafels are very good, but my favorite is chicken in a pita which is loaded with yummy chicken, lettuce, tomatoes, cucumber and their wonderful sauce. The banana shake's pretty good too. Highly recommended.

Only place my family goes

This is by far the best place for falafels and gyros. My family and I have tried other places but nothing compares. We will travel far just to come to this restaurant. I highly recommend coming here. I'm sure once you do you wont go any place else.

but great sandwiches. All seating is outdoors. Recommendation: try the Orange Freeze (I think that's what it's called).
