Sushi Masa, San Jose

I haven't been to Sushi Masa for a while, so I was looking forward to dinner there. However, the food was not as good as it had been and the service was HORRIBLE from the minute you came in. The food was cold, the staff paid no attention to you at all. I waited almost 15 minutes before the hostess evev picked up her head to notice I was there. No smile, no apology, the surrounding tables were left uncleaned. It was an awful experience! Though the sushi may be gooid, the restaurant area is really bad and noone seems to care. I will never go there again!!!!!

One of the best sushi restaurant in the whole Bay Area. It location is a little weird (Almaden residential area), but you can not argue with the quality they offer.

Unbelievably fresh fish. Best sushi in Bay Area. Masa is a true master and his side chef June is great too. Ask for the VIP menu if you sit at the bar. Enjoy!!!

Great food. I would have to say that this place is the best Japanese restaurant in town. Masa is awesome chef who takes pride in his dishes. Unlike other Japanese restaurants, they do not cut fish ahead of time to keep it fresh... Highly recommended...

I'm not a big dessert fan so it's odd for me to start talking about dessert, but I simply have to. The tempura ice cream here is nothing like I've ever had. Green tea ice cream is covered with, what I assume is, pound cake. Then it's dipped in tempura batter, and quick fried for a nice crispy shell. The result is simply scrumptious! I made a promise to myself to not have a big dinner next time I come here so i can eat more of the dessert. For dinner, I started off wth a spider roll as an appetizer, which was very well done. Then I had a Sea Bass Terikyaki as my main course. I was disappointed with the sea bass, since I believe it was overcooked. It was a bit hard and stiff (that's what she said), and not the soft and buttery texture I'm accustomed to for Sea Bass. But I wasn't too disappointed by the meal since it ended on a good note with the tempura ice cream. Can't wait to come back!

The food was fine, but that couldnt make up for the service. It shouldnt take 45 minutes if you order cold soba. And, if it does, maybe a water refill would help?

I LOVE Sushi Masa. Their sushi is always very fresh and wonderful tasting, time after time. I've been to many sushi restaurants and I have to say that this is the best sushi restaurant around. This place is hardly ever swamped, which is a complete suprise but I have a feeling that the word must not have gotten out that the sushi here is excellent.

I've been there several times now and this plays never fails to impress. Any time of day or night is equally great. Trush me, if you like good Japanese, you'll love this play. Everything is fresh and high quality

A friend recommended Sushi Masa to me, and although I'm not usually a fan of sushi, I decided to give it a try. That was a few years ago, and since then, I've become a devoted fan. The atmosphere is cozy, particularly if you dine at the sushi bar -- it's as though you're visiting the home of a friend. As a vegetarian, I enjoy asking the chefs to surprise me with something to delight, and they never fail. My husband, also a devoted fan, has tasted nearly everything on the menu. I almost feel I shouldn't be raving about this place, because it might become too crowded, if enough people experience Sushi Masa!
