Consuelo Mexican Bistro, San Jose

mi experiecia en este restaurante fue mala ,la cheef tiene mal caracter y ademas no me gusto lo que me sirvieron por que estaba muy frio y cuando pedi que mandaran al cheef que estaba con un hombre dandole de besos y se tardo mucho en venir,esa cheef no sirve

The overpriced food isn't that great, but the tequila-based drinks are. I wanted authentic Mexican food, and I honestly think I would be better off going to some hole-in-the-wall Downtown!

The service was decent. Homemade tortilla were good. Entree was horrible. The carnita's were extremely salty. Would never eat there again.

Alot of Hype if you ask me. You would think Santana Row would have somthing descent. Yeah, there alot of tequila's to choose from, but who needs a hundred different tequila's? The atmosphere at the outside bar is nice. But the appetizers are small and not very good. I ordered the chisken tostada appetizers and there were more onions then chicken. If you want to get an after work drink it might be nice, but i hope you dont get hungry for mexican food cause there's not a descent one around there for miles.

I have mostly been here for lunch. The services is really good, the sangria is great and the appetizers are great. The lunch plates are pretty typical but very good.

Been here for both lunch and dinner and found lunch to be better experience. Sauces are nice and the guac is made tableside which is also nice as you can specify how you would like it prepared. All the meals our party had were fine but not exceptional. The fish dishes (Veracruz) were the best. The Plantains were great for dessert. Solid Mexican feed for the price and setting...Drinks were all made well and nice bar but no ladder to get to all the liquor? Not my problem I guess.

Editing this entry on 10/21/07. We at there last night and had horrible service: had to ask for everything twice, had empty glasses on the table multiple times, and complained at the end to a completely apathetic manager. I am so disappointed at this place that I really used to enjoy. Beware-- Consuelo's has gone downhill! Previous review: Mmmm mmmm mmmmm: Great Mexican tapas. Order the guacamole at least once, since it is made table-side. My husband was in awe at the selection of tequilas, and still raves about the margarita he had. Great place to celebrate.

Saturday for lunch. Service was slow. We had 2 different waiters, they were nice and helpful however. The fillet was overcooked and tough. The carnitas were dry and bland. The sauces aren't that spicy. Took a long time to get the check. If you want a nice atmosphere with lots of tequilla, go to Fiesta del Mar in Mountain View.
