Gojo Restaurant, San Jose

Loved it. We had a lamb dish, a beef dish and a veggie dish and of course the honey wine. I was very impressed with the uniqueness of how the food is presented. The food was very good and we totally loved the lamb and the sauce it was cooked in. We ended with the baklava and coffee. We are looking forward to going back and trying the ceremony coffee which needs to be ordered 1 hour in advance.

You'd never guess that the food would be this good. Try anything and you'll be happy.

I love Ethiopian Food! I know Ethiopian Food (or atleast I like to think so). Out of the 3 South Bay Ethiopian Restaurants I've eaten at Gojo is where I find myself returning too. The food is FRESH! I mean, you hear them a chopping up your food while you wait. And they are so right on with their spices! Not too little and not too much! The lentils linger for just the right amount of time. I've eaten at Zeni and Mudai and neither of them compare to Gojo. Plus, the ambiance is great and everyone is very friendly. Big ups to the African Mercado next door as well! Gojo has my vote for South Bay best Ethiopian Restaurant. peace.

Best quality ethiopian that I've had in the area. This is my favorite restaurant, flat out, in the San Jose area. (Cheap beer, too!)

Very delicious food and wonderful service. This is one of my favorites in the Bay Area and has the best Ethiopian cuisine in San Jose by far. And I've tried them ALL. One of the best things is they carry wheat free 100% teff injera,..Which is great for some of us who need gluten free options, like me. Be sure to call ahead to see if they have the gluten free injera before going in though. It goes fast.

We had the veggie platter, traditional honey wine, and another side veggie dish. The meal was incredible. It's a hidden little hole in the wall, but the total bill was $30 for 3 people. I'm more familiar with ethiopian restaurants in SF... this was my first in the south bay - it was definitely as good.

I've eaten here, Zeni, and Shebele and so far Gojo is the best Ethiopian restaurant in the Bay Area. Still have others to try out but this place is definitely worth checking out. The service is very friendly and the food is superb. Unlike other restaurants they don't make it until you order it and they make it to your specifications. Being allergic to pepper I always ask for it with no pepper and that's how it comes. Check it out.

We loved the food. It was spiced just right and the three lentil dishes in our veggie platter were delicious. The collards were cook till soft but not dried out and the gomen was tasty. However it did take us 2 and a half hours to eat dinner despite the fact that we did not order drinks, knew what we were going to order when we came in and had no special requests with the food. We called ahead to make a reservation but they said that we did not need one since they would definitely have space for two adults and a child. On reaching we had to wait about 7- 10 minutes before a table was free. We realized that there was only one person seating people, serving food, dispensing drinks and clearing tables. So after being seated it was another 15 minutes before we got menu cards. We tried to put our order in straight away but the gentleman was too quick for us and vanished before we could say 3 waters, a veggie sampler and an order of Yemisir Wat. As we sat waiting for his return we realized that there was a cockroach between the cane of the woven table and the acrylic. I went up to the counter and asked the person there to change the table and he came up to our table pulled out the acrylic and picked out the cockroach and popped the acrylic back. We requested that he change the table altogether and he did. We watched him for a while but saw no evidence of him washing his hands or using sanitizer. The restroom is also not the cleanest. I recommend giving it a miss altogether if you can.
