One of the all time classic restaurants in San Jose, Original Joe's has been around since 1956. The waiters are never far away and the bartenders are truly one of a kind. It is the only restaurant in the area that is open until 1a. The menu features a number of American and Italian classics, such as sandwiches, pastas and salads.
OJ's is the wonderful!! I'm a native San Josean, been visiting OJ's for years. I love, love the wait staff and the viddles. The waiters are like my long lost uncles. My favorite dish is the Fussilli noodles with white sauce, chicken and brocolli, didn't used to be on the menu, but I think it is now. My cousin (and best friend ) and I go whenever we get the chance. I currently live in Las Vegas and I can't wait for my next visit home, would like to bring my boyfriend and introduce him to the spot. Can't wait to see it after the remodel. Miss you Original Joe's!! Mmmmmm...
I've gone here many times. The food is pretty good, and most of it is fairly priced. The wait staff is akin to having Tony Soprano wait on your table, meaning the bad traits. They have major attitude and hold the glasses by the rim instead of the bottom half, so ask for a straw if you drink out of their glasses. The wait for a table can be aggravating, but usually on Friday or Saturday nights. Most other times it's a short wait or none at all. They've gotten skimpier though. They don't put as many fries on the plate as before and they never used to question my asking for french bread before, on the last visit, they said they didn't serve it if I was already getting some with my meal (i.e. a sandwich).
I have been going here for years. This is one of my most favorite Italian resturants! Food and service never changes and is always top quality. 99% of the time I go in thier and it is busy, but they try and get you seated as soon as possible. I even took several friends their who have never been their and they raved about the place! Food is resonably priced compared to most restuarants, they have an open kitchen at the bar so you can see them cooking. All the staff are dresses in tux's. The plates are huge and piled high! 5 stars for me!
The food and service is excellent! Waiting patiently for opening day.
Good for everyone. Service is fast and friendly. Never been disappointed. Good portions large enough to have leftovers for lunch the next day.
Never had to wait longer than 30 min. when the place was full. The wait is worth it.
A satisfied regular customer
This is one of the oldest restaurants in San Jose, and still stands as one of its best. If you like art-neuvo meets old Las Vegas, Joe’s is your place. The only thing this place is missing is Tony Soprano and his crew nestled in one of the booths in the back. The steaks and chops are grilled over an open flame, and are mouth watering. The tuxedo clad wait staff brings the early 60’s rat pack back to life. A full bar is located in the back of the restaurant, complete with stodgie old bartender who has no idea how to make any new fangled coctails. Keep it simple…martini up with 2 olives or a Harvey Wallbanger.
This restaurant always seems better in theory. It feels like a throwback to how nice italian restaurants used to be, from the staff, to the booths, to the dim lighting. The problem is the food is never as good as you want it to be, and the clientele is a little crass and unpleasant. I can see this used to be a great restaurant, and maybe after a little makeover, it can be again.
I always think I'm going to have a great meal here, but then when I look at the menu I remember why I don't frequent here. For whatever reason, I'm not impressed with their selection. It's either a dish I already make (and don't want to eat at a restaurant), or it's a completely foreign food that I'm not sure I want to spend my money on.
