Grande Pizzeria is a family owned Italian restaurant that has been in Downtown San Jose forever. Located right across the street from San Jose State University, it is a popular inexpensive hangout for students and faculty members. Grande's pizzas are simply outstanding, and the cooks will make the crust the way you want it. You can also order slices with whatever topping you choose.
To begin our horendous dining experience at Grande Pizza, you had to practically jump in front of the waitress to even get her to take your order. When we finally did get her attention my friend and I asked if we could get extra mushrooms in our ravioli with mushroom sauce dish. What a mistake that was. She then had to go and ask the chef for about 5 minutes to see if they were able to add in a handful of extra mushroom (even at Round Table pizza they don't think twice when you ask for extra).
The biggest hit was when we got the bill. Our meal was priced on the menu as $9.95 but our bill stated it was $17.95. Ends up they decided to charge us $7.95 EACH for the mushrooms ($16 additional for a few extra slices of mushrooms!!!). It is unbelievable, and should be against the law, for a restaurant to overcharge to that extent and not notify the customer ahead of time.
There are many other decent Italian restaurants in the area, so I suggest going to any of them unless you want to deal with hypothetically getting charged an extra $10 because you asked for some pepper on your salad.
I go there about 3 times a week and always get great food and exellent service I usually go there for luch and dinner great prices and good food large amounts great place to hang out any time of day love the bar
Consistantly great pizza for the 15 years that I have been going. Stick to the basics, pep, veggie, combo, and you wont be disapointed. If you want foo foo drive to Willow Glen. Grande is also known for giant sandwhiches and good pasta, but I am a pizza purist. Good service and good value. Can get busy at lunch so plan ahead.
This place has just gotten better with the years. They have been making improvements in the decor. Good beers on tap, great pastas, and good service. I epsecially like their pesto and their mushroom sauces. Also one of the best eggplant sandwiches around. You will usually leave with enough leftovers for lunch for the next day, and they are easy on the wallet.
This is a place you can come to and feel that you are visiting friends. The atmosphere is relaxed, portions are huge and the service is friendly. This is the type of place you make your regular hangout on Friday nights or after work.
First of all the food is great, especially when it comes to cost and portions not proportionate with the costs. You way too much for your buck. I am 31 and I have been going to grande for 23 years and the food, service, and owners have only gotten better. Your really can't beat the taste of the pizza and the rest of the menu only compliments the pizza.
