We have been customers of Pho Thanh Long on El Camino Real for more than 15 years. I am very sad to report that their recent management change is not a good one. The food quality is not consistent and their customer service is very poor. I will be trying other Pho restaurants now.
The worst Pho I ever had, tasted horrible. As I read other posts referring to a very large serving size, in this case size doesn't matter if after first spoon you done. The only eatable part of the soup was the noodles. No service what so ever. Here is the pointer: beef noodle #1, 1611 E Capitol Expy
San Jose, CA 95121 and the other place to consider is Pho Hoa at 3484 El Camino Real, Santa Clara, CA 95051.
Great place for quick cheap pho ga. The chicken there is really fresh. The past few times Ive been there I asked for banh pho thoi, which is the frest noodle that is a little thicker in width. Real good!
The food is cheap and delicious and their service is quick and friendly. I love their coconut juice. My friends love their smoothies. I always order any type of pho, lemon chicken over rice, or the chicken salad. I have been going here for two years and have not been disappointed. I don't know about the other users, but my friends and family love this place.
I have to disagree with ordering the lemon chicken. It was one of the worst lemon chicken I've had. The meat was very thin, mostly batter hardened to a crisp, and the sauce was served separately in a bowl. The jackfruit smoothie, however, was really good and I'd come back just for that. I'll have to try the pho next time.
The beef broth did not taste 'fresh'. I know how to cook and I know when the meat used in the cooking was not fresh. My bowl of beef noodle soup was terrible that day. I hope the restaurant will pay attention to the taste of its broth before it reaches customers' palate.
I have tried Pho is various places (including NY, NJ, Toronto, Oakland) and this is one of the best tasting. The atmosphere is nothing great but food is worth it. We like to have the chicken pho with only white meat. Occasionally we have the steamed dumplings appetizer which is pretty good too. My 5 year old son loves the noodle soup. If you are a Pho person this is a good place to try.
Warm and fresh pho perferct for the cold bay area winter. Food is good, atmosphere is noisy as any other chinese restaurant.
Not good for groups since it tend to get crowded during lunch and there is a waiting list you have to sign up. Strategically located on El Camino and Montague (santa clara).
Please note that this place has no service at all. Basically you come in, the waiter will ask what you want to order and they will give you either the hot tea or water.
The busboy is not really discrete when cleaning, so it will really mess up your appetite if they are cleaning up the tables besides you. Otherwise it is a good place just for the food only.
