Engfer Pizza Works, Santa Cruz

Wood fired pizzas are great! The vegan pizzas are far superior to the non-vegan ones, though, FYI. The person who says they don't have a great beer selection is way wrong. Even a decent variety of Belgians, I can't say that about 8 out of 10 bars. Other pros: you can buy (vegan) pizza dough there. If you call in an order for pickup, you might as well get in the car, they're fast! Cons: I do agree that the price is a touch high for what you get. Mostly, a large pizza is what I imagine a medium being most other places. I guess it is because their crust is thin and they can't get the pizzas much bigger? But a large is enough for about two people, not enough for three. Toppings are generally light, but again, maybe that is because of the thin crust. I'd agree it would be nice if they replaced the ping pong table, as it is the same one that has always been there. Still, I'd rather go there than most places in town. Pizza in Santa Cruz is really bad, with only Pizza My Heart also having decent pizza...

It's hard to find, the sign is too small. The pizza is good, but they are stingy with the toppings. I ordered extra cheese, and I could barely find any cheese at all. The crust was burnt on one edge. It's pretty pricey for what you get. We ordered a large salad of organic greens to go. It was 6 bucks and just about 2 cups of greens tossed in a vin and oil dressing stuffed in a tiny box. Enough for one person, maybe. This was a genuine rip off by any measure.

I can't speak for anything else on the menu (yet) but the pizza is deliciosso.

I LOVE Engfers!!!! They make great wood-oven pizza... and best of all, they make great VEGAN pizza. The vegan pizza has a special tofu-tomato sauce & then you can pick all your toppings. It's so tasty and it's so special to go out for pizza with your cheese-y friends! Also, I love all the cool drinks and sodas they have, and the super fun laid-back ambience. Everyone who works there seems so nice and fun... And last, but not least, they even have tofutti cuties in their little frozen icy treats section!! Hoorah!

we were introduced to this place by a local, and let me tell you, i'm glad i don't live near this restaurant. why? b/c during the course of the evening, me, my bf, and his friend ate 3 large pizzas. that's one large pizza apiece. i have never eaten that much pizza in a single sitting before, but it was impossible to stop. the dough was perfectly cooked, just slightly charred from the ovens and piping hot. lots of vegetarian-friendly options (it's santa cruz, after all) and a huge drink selection. a hearty (but stuffed) five-star rating from me!

I dig this place. The service is cool. They make the pizza right in front of you. Their menu is awesome and the atmosphere is fun. It's a friendly local spot. The pizza is some of the best I've had. It's very casual. You order, then sit down. You get some kind of artful marker to stick on your table. You can grab any drink you wish from the fridge. When you're all done you pay for everything. They just count the bottles on your table. One bit of advice. Order in advance even if you're going to eat there. Sometimes it takes a while to get your pizza. That's the price you pay for fresh, terrific food.

Best place for pizza in Santa Cruz hands down. It's great for dates or for families. They have games, toys, and plenty of activities and food to keep the kids happy. But this is no Chuck E. Cheese. You'll find a great selection of adult beverages, lots of ambiance, and fun for everyone.
