If I want to eat Italian in Santa Cruz - Bocci's Cellar is superb. Atmosphere, intimacy, and Santa Cruz ambiance - wonderful. I've lived all over the world - and although I'm a big fan of Thai food, if I go to the US (any city) I want my comfort food, Italian!
In Santa Cruz, Bocci's my home. Four stars; set in stone.
A locals only place, Bocci's Cellear is like a speak-easy because it's located in the basement of a house. There's a bar and a restaurant. The food is overpriced, it was about $15 for a so-so plate of pasta, though it comes with a small salad and bread.
If the food were cheaper I'd go again, but it's not worth the prices.
Bocci's cellar has a warm, welcoming atmosphere. The service is friendly. They have a good wine selection, as well as several choices for $2.00 beer, and the balsamic-olive oil-garlic dipping sauce they serve with fresh bread is the best!
It has great Italian food, cheap beer and bocci courts all in the cozy cellar of an old Victorian house.
