Great food! Great service! Great atmosphere! Flour chips and chunky salsa are awesome! I have been going to Dona s for years and will continue to as long as were both still around. The business supports and sponsers many community organizations/events. Thanks for all you do for our communty, Dona s!!
TOTALLY DISAPPOINTED WENT TO SAN JUAN BAUTISTA AND HAD HIGH HOPES. We were the first people to sit down in the patio area, others came in after us. We got no water right away like the other tables, DID we got chips finally, then only one salsa, we knew there were 2, the table next to us got the other sals RIGHT AWAY AND. the better chips, my sons beef burrito was soaked in oil nothing else in there but ground beef and oil wrapped in a flour tortilla, I asked for two tacos got one, had to ask for the other salsa finally got it when our chips were out, then when we asked for more chips got the other 2nd salsa and then no chipS what the.....!!! then had to ask for refill on lemonaid, when she finally brought the lemonaid it came with a lemon wedge with out anY lemon on it just the butt skin, did not get that with the first order, my husbands #8 plate needs to be changed to a zero. The whatever rolled up things were hard meat inside dried up. There was no taste to any of the meals other than the thank goodness for the 2ND salsa. that is the only thing that was tastefull. The service was horrible. I gave my son my taco since his burritto was floating in oil, I tried it and yuk. I'm not sure what possessed them to treat our family like WE WERE not locals, when we are from right around the corner and can drive a little to get nothing, that is the worst Mexican foot we have had in a long time we love Mexican food since Monterey County and surrounding areas that is what makes this area. Too bad so saad never will eat there again. Our friends we met today in SJB ate there last night and had good food and service good for them, well you Sunday shift cookers and servers are aweful. Oh the taco Jack n the box made a better crunchy taco. $55 dollar bill without alchol also way over priced for what you dont get and shoulda got. I have not written a review ever but people you gotta know times are tough to spend money outside and for a Sunday Mexican lunch at that to be as bad puts a bad taste in our mouth and we want you to know. Go to Michaels in Salinas, oh and the chips at Chipolte were even better, plus the other table next to us got the other kind of flour chips guess they thought we were tourist from out of this country and would settle for less. This will at least make me feel better that I got this off my mind. And trust me I will let everyone know about this bad experience when Mexican food is a topic. Too bad Nice place. Hopefully the owners will read this and change up the staff and food for the next customers so they don't have such a bad lunch especially for such a beautiful Sunday. We will never go back. Change this 4 star above to 1 minus. The 1 is for location and weather only.
Have not eaten there for probably ten years. Went for dinner this past Sunday. Arrived about six, it was not busy. My wife and I ordered the carne asada dinner. Good points: we were seated immediately, chips and salsa brought to us quickly, rice and beans were both very good although not enough. Bad points: after being seated the waitress disappeared for more than 5 minutes and we were not asked if we wanted anything to drink. So we sat there munching on chips with nothing to drink. When waitress returned for our order I told her we would like a beer and a glass of water and that we were not ready to order. Enough about the service, now for the food. Chips tasted stale and cold, salsa had to have come out of a can, it was tasteless and very bland. Our steak was very fatty, especially my wifes. She must have cut off approximately 25% which was fat. The corn tortillas must have come from the store down the street. They could not have been made fresh. Overall, a big disappointment. It must be the only Mexican restaurant in San Juan. We would not go there again.
We had dinner at Dona Esther's last night. I was soooo disapointed. First of all, the chips were stale and the salsa tasted like out of the can. I ordered the combination plate of the chile relleno, enchilada and taco. The ground meat in the taco was awaful, it had a very bad taste. I cut into the chile relleno and there was only a small piece of the actual chile, it was mostly melted cheese covered with the breaded batter. The enchilada was OK. We had been to the restaurant about five years ago, were not empressed then either, we thought we would give it another shot, but we will surely not be back anytime soon.
Gordon Ramsay needs to visit this place STAT! What happened to quality, authenticity and raising the bar? Unfortunately, this once great restaurant has taken a turn for the worst. Stale chips, weak salsa, poor tasting entrees sometimes covered with questionable sauces and a copious amount of cheese. This place makes me sick and sad.
i was not only disapointed in the food, but the margarits were groes,if you want good mexican food and drinks go down the street to la poblanita. dona estes chili colarado had a decent sauce, but the meat was tough and had a bad flavor. they did have great salsa, as long as u put some lime and salt into it.and the sevirce was poor and not hygenic.
