I used to frequent Gilbert s Firefish Grill , but this last weekend following Thanksgiving was served by a severely intoxicated male waiter who was both insulting and inappropriate. I will not be giving Mark Gilbert my hard earned money to be insulted by a drunk waiter.

i like this restaurant. we were a party of 4 on 10/21...the experience was good from the start. The hostess was friendly, we had a table by the window for a great early evening view. Our waitress was attentive and pleasant. We all had different orders & everyone was very happy. I ordered the sand dabs, someone else had the fish & chips. We also ordered the oysters for an appetizer , they were very fresh. I would definitely go back.

Please DO NOT GO TO GILBERT'S. Food and service is really really bad. I planeed to have a nice luch with my husband this weekend and going to Gilbert's ruined my entire day. Server ignored us after I told her the lettuce in my salad was dirty I mean dirty you could see the dirt and the mushrooms were not washed either non- sanitary at all. I told her but she wanted to still charge us for the salad it didn't make any sense, plus the butter was frozen the bread was not fresh, plates and silverware were not very clean. I just wanted to cancel my order my it was too late finally I didn't pay for the salad, but after she brought the food I didn't see her no refills, no comments, service is horrible and the food terrible. GO SOMEWHERE ELSE ,,,,

Good food, great view
By ,
Gilbert's is a favorite of ours. We have been eating there for 3 years, about 8 times a year. The food is always great, service good and the view is always fantastic. We get window seats. The one thing we find fault with are the very hard and crusty bread rolls that they give you. They are almost inedible. You must tear them open with your hands. With the new remodeling, great food, fantastic view, your rolls are the only thing wrong and you can easily change that but supplying some great San Franscisco sourdough loaves. Thanks!

Wrong way to treat guests IMHO
By ,
We went on the first night of our honeymoon, we had received 2 cards for either a free appetizer or beverage when we checked into our hotel (the Ramada, very nice room but tiny), anyway off to dinner on the wharf. When we were finally seated (it was a very slow Monday night and pretty empty) I presented the cards to our waiter, and was informed that we could only use one card per visit. I asked to see the manager and he COULD have solved the dispute very easily. I mean the whole idea behind the cards is to promote the buisness, yes? Well he confirmed what we were told by the waiter, and because we then decided to only have soup, were informed that we could not use the card at all. Well GILBERTS lost any buisness that we would have had with this. We went to the next place down Gilda's and spent $60 on a wonderful seafood dinner. Don't go to Gilberts, go to another place on the wharf like Gilda's or Stagnaro's and get treated properly.

Clam Chowder on the Wharf
By ,
Gilbert's, along with every Santa Cruz Wharf restaurant, already knows that it is on the wharf and does not really have to be good. Half of those places are horrible, but maintain business from the tourists. Gilbert's, however, actually is good, which makes it a fine visit. The interior is a little bit like an old Denny's, with a red carpet and an interior vaguely reminiscent of a yacht cabin. All the same, the seafood is good, and there is a view of Cowell's Beach and break from the windows. The clam chowder is great, and the king crab legs are fresh. 2.7
