Simplicity never looked more romantic than at this small, unassuming restaurant. White linen tables, fresh flowers and comforting earth tones create a dining setting of complete calm. The kitchen mirrors this feel by hatching a seasonally changing menu full of organic vegetables and local farm products. The smoked salmon fettuccine and the Guinea hen with tarragon sauce rate very high. All the desserts and pastries are homemade. The wine list is superb and is offered by both the glass and the bottle.
As previously stated here, before my post was pulled (for some reason). My wife and I went here for our anniversary. It was crowded, loud and doesn't have the best entryway. We each had a bowl with one chicken leg (not even a breast) in it and a few small potatos in the sauce along with a few pieces of bread and a few overcooked vegetables. It was tasty, but a total disappointment as far as value goes. Chicken legs are one of the most inexpensive parts of a chicken. Even the couple next to us shook their heads. This is what $19.00 each got us at this place. No polenta, no rice. We ended up so hungry that we went to Jumping Monkey and ate with the homeless and got a more complete fulfilling dinner for around $10.00 a piece, soup included.
We went to this place for an anniversary dinner and found it overall disappointing. Our reservations were made hours in advance and we still had to wait outside after the reservation time even though we arrived early. The place is too small and cramp, you are practically bumping elbows with other diners. Place is so loud you can't even have a quiet conversation. Also, diners out in the concrete entry hall almost appears to be a fire law violation. The service was good, no complaint there.
The main problem was what we received for each of our $19.00 plates. We each ordered the Chicken Gabriella. That composed of one small L shaped leg and attached thigh in a bowl of sauce with around 5 little chunks of potatoes. It was tasty and cooked well. There is no soup, no salad, just a few slices of bread, tasty, but hardly enough food, not for the overly expensive price. So for over $41.00 our total dinner consisted of 2 small pieces of leg and thigh chicken sitting in a sauce with a few chunks of potatoes. We ended up so hungry that we bought dinner again at another restaurant down the way. I can't recommend this place as the price / value just isn't there. Good place to waste your money.
Gabriella's cafe has an exciting and full of flavor menu. The resturant is very romantic and you can tell that the owner takes pride in it's food an atmosphere. The art shows are always fantasic featuring local artists. When you come to Santa Cruz you must eat at Gabriella's evry night. The bread is the best bread I have ever tasted. I never miss an opotunity to schedule a trip up North just to go eat at Gabriella's!
Gabriella's is a tiny Italian/American restaurant close to Santa Cruz downtown that's perfect for an evening out. It has the feel of a family owned restaurant - the waitresses are very friendly and knowledge-able and the ambience is very relaxed and homely.
I loved the crab cakes (appetizer). It's a bit on the expensive side (dinner for 2 costs about 70 with a couple glasses of wine).
This place when you first see it seems like an average tiny little Italian restaurant, but in fact it is probably the best Italian restaurant I have been to in a long long time. Their pasta dishes were amazing! The dish I ordered had so much flavor and was so bold that I could not stop eating, it was like a burst of all the herbs and garlic mixed with the different textures of pasta and bread crumbs that just made it an unbelieveable dish. Also they Focaccai was really nice and warm, and if you love bread you will enjoy this for sure! In addition to that I had ordered a lemonade, which they made fresh in their kitchen and it was so good, sweet and natural, it was probably the best lemonade I have ever had! Another recommendation is their chai...It was truly amazing, with the right hint of sweetness, cinnamon and chai blended together with froth that it will definitely be a great dessert beverage. Oh and definitely try the tiramasu!
Not only, was their food good, the ambiance of the restaurant was nice too. It's a little small or at least seems to be when you enter, but that is what gives the restaurant its charm. It's cozy yet elegant enough for a romantic dinner or for a nice quiet dinner out with friends. The tables are set with a white table cloth and on the table cloth is a white shee of paper. This white shee of paper not only serves the purpose of keeping the table clean, but to entertain as well. You may request crayons and begin to draw and use the white sheet of paper to create any art you want. If you would like to preserve the white sheet as a part of the table cloth and be a mature adult that is fine too. Yet, despite which way one's maturity level swings it is definitely a place to go for a great meal, amazing beverages, great ambiance and service.
I definitely recommend this restaurant if you want to have a quiet night out, a fun time and some really flavorful food. This place was recommended to me by a friend and I recommend it to others, it is definitely a delightful place to be.
You can expect to find delicious, eclectic cuisine made from fresh, locally produced ingerdients. There is also a extensive wine list featuring wines from the local area.
The staff are geniunely friendly and contribute to the overall atmosphere of this great cozy restaurant.
This is not a fast food place and you may wait a few minutes longer than you expect for your food to arrive when the place is crowded. I think this is just part of the atmosphere. Just order a bottle of wine and enjoy the conversation and the art work on the wall.
The menu features numerous daily specials and many unusual and organic ingredients. The food was outstanding.
I visited on a Saturday night without a reservation, and as the restaurant looked crowded, I didn't expect to get in, but my party was seated within a few minutes. The service was quite slow, so expect a leisurely meal.
