it is under new management (from my understanding only a month old) and the food is more of the Tokyo style with the infusion of the ubiquitious bay area flair of the embellished Maki rolls. One of the better sashimi and sushi places in the bay area. prices are reasonable and staff is very helpuful and friendly.
Sushi Kai has finally re-opened. The decor is all new as is the menu. We ordered a variety of items, and all were quite good. Our server was clearly new and didn't know the menu very well but the other staff made up for his inexperience. Also, they now have Suntory Malts, not usually available around here.
I went during happy hour on a monday, service was very good, food was not bad considering it was a sushi boat style. The plates of sushi was plastic wrapped so it was moist although I would have preferred fresh made. (there was only 3 tables including us at the time).
Our cups was always filled and our server was very good. I would go back again.
This place is okay , worse part is the SERVICE its terrible. beyond that they try to rip me off. i payed a certain amount onto my card, next day after that i check my online bank system, i was charged extra like 10 bucks onto the account which was different total price then on my receipt they gave me n i didnt even dine in, so i denno why they charge me extra tip money when i didnt even eat there or they served me AT ALL. I GUESS The extra 10 bucks was added on by them employee themselves after i have left the restaurant. luckily i found out about this early today. I WOULD NEVER TRUST THIS PLACE EVER AGAIN! DONT EAT HERE IF I WERE YOU WITH THERE POOR EMPLOYEE SERVICEs.
I loved the sushi but what killed it here was the waitress decided to give herself an extra tip on my credit card after I tipped her a very good amount in cash, which I should not have had to do since it was a to go order. And as a server I think service is very important in a restaurant because if you can't trust a place with your money how can you honestly trust their quality?
I came because of the good reviews, but I was disappointed. The place was cramped, dirty, the chairs and tables wobbled. All three waiters would disappear at the same time, one was grumpy. The sushi was small and messy looking, didn't taste too good. The service was slow. We waited 30 minutes to get the bill, another 30 for someone to pick it up. However, no one did, so we went to the register, waited for another ten until one of the waitresses came out to ring us up. Even mall sushi is better than this, sorry.
This place has done nothing but gotten better! Been going here since day one; what's that, about 6 years? You may come across a bad waitress (someone elses experience)but they won't keep em. They are family owned, friendly, and excellent cooks! Crowded because they rock! The best in Milpitas! Always giving a goodie for free just because........Try it, you'll be happy you did!
The Diaz Family (who moved away :-( )
Maybe I picked a bad nite but there was one waitress there that was rude to everybody including her co-workers & even started a fight with one of her co-workers. They must have been short staffed tonite because this is the 1st time I have ever seen sushi boats with no sushi on them. I did have 2 rolls that were very good but their chicken teriyaki came out cold and was very bland. 1 family left because they had waited too long for their food. They didn't charge us for the chicken teriyaki and they did give us free green tea ice cream but I don't think I'll be returning to this place anytime soon.
