Holy guacamole, was this place good. It was highly recommended by family & friends and boy they were right! I must admit I was a little weary when I walked, but don't let the size of the place fool ya! For a small place they really know what they are doing. The saying that good things come in small packages suits this place perfectly They have awesome service and excellent food. Our wait staff was friendly, knowledgeable and patient. We had a group of 7 and even though we got there and it looked like we might have to wait for a table they fit us right in. I was going to order the taco and echilada plate but then the table behind us was delivered a Chile Verde burrito. Just one look is all it took. I changed my mind and was so happy that I had done so. I am very picky about my Chile Verde, cause no one makes it like Mom. But I have to say they even have my Mom beat, don't tell her I said that.
My aunt ordered the cheese enchilada's and I had a taste, wow, the sauce was so darn good. Creamy and flavorful. Everyone else at the table was very happy with what they ordered too. Too bad I Iive in San Jose, or I'd be going there alot more often. Bravo to the entire staff for an excellent job. I look forward to returning and I will definately be recommending the restraunt to all my family and friends.
El Toro Bravo is around the corner of the Capitola Esplanade just a couple hundred feet from the beach. This restaurant offers my favorite prawn cocktail of all time, served in a large soup bowl with a spicy but not viscous cocktail sauce and avocados. Also, the crab taco is awesome, with lots of shredded crab and cheese. The chips are good if they are fresh, and the salsa is okay. They have beer but not wine or other.
El Toro Bravo is the only mexican food in Capitola, and it competes with all of the seafood restaurants on the main Esplanade. Toro Bravo does not have a/c, so it is to be avoided on really hot days. 2.7
Oh man...this is the real deal. I have finally found an AMAZING Mexican restaurant in the Bay Area. When your food comes out, the plate is piping hot, beans are incredible, enchiladas are great, salsa is about average but still good, ambiance is ok but right on the beach. Nothing like stuffing yourself and laying out on the hot sand.
This is the best Mexican food that I have had in the Bay Area to date. A small, family owned restaurant, and it was great. The enchiladas were awesome! And the prices were reasonable, considering that each plate practically took over half the table. It is a lot of good food, and it worth every bite and penny. I have been back several times, even if it takes a drive to get there. The only downfall is trying to find parking in downtown Capitola. (A minor price to pay to have great food!)
