this is a favorite brunch spot when we visit family in the north bay
the menu is good and the food tasty enough.
it is very easy to miss this restaurant as it is situated right after a blind curve coming off the mill valley exit of 101. similarly, leaving this restauraunt by car usually involves a gamble that you won't be hit by a vehicle rounding aforementioned curve. parking is also bad.
the place is generally pretty busy and the service reflects that - if you need something extra like a refill, expect to remind your server a few times.
Dipsea is a popular joint, especially for breakfast, but things are declining - and that's the fault of the cooks. I had a burger there for lunch two days ago and was in the bathroom with cramps within an hour. Bad stuff, I'm not going back.
I do not understand the fascination with the Dipsea Cafe. The food is mediocre at best, and seems to always arrive cold or incorrectly prepared. Prices are too high for what you get, and it amazes me how long people will routinely wait for a table here on weekends (45 minutes to 1 hour!!). Service tends towards slow and unfriendly.
On the plus side, the location is nice and the general interior ambience is pleasant, but these factors cannot overcome the major weaknesses in food, prices, wait time and service.
Having said all of this, Mill Valley struggles overall with a notable lack of decent dining opportunities - especially for breakfast/brunch. One notable exception is The Buckeye Roadhouse, just down the road from the Dipsea. Bottom line, don't waste your time and money - just go to Denny's in Corte Madera for cheap, go to the Buckeye for excellent!
