Very cool place! We loved the atmosphere and great service. The food completely exceeded our expectations! Reasonably priced, large helpings, and super flavorful! Hans and staff did a great job explaining menu choices and making sure we were good the whole time. Desert was heavenly! We ll be back for sure, will do our son s wedding rehersal dinner here next month.
We dined there twice
First time wasn't too impressed with my selection as I worked
in Germany for two months -The food didn't resemble anything from Germany other than the name
Second time; went with a group of Germans friends
Service was terrible, waited 45 minutes in a cramped area for our reserved table - food was terrible, portions were small, went home hungry -got hit with a $30 tip.
The beer is good , if you drink enough and don't mind the high prices
The only thing worst was the explain from the owner -Whitney
Great food and service. My wife and 2 teenagers really liked it. I'd been here a few years ago and had a great experience then too but I wasn't sure how my kids were going to like it. My favorite is the (deep fried or broiled) pork knuckle (I'm not even going to try to spell it in german). My wife loved the food too, especially the red cabbage. My kids liked that they could go outside and check the place out (anything so not to be stuck with mom & dad!), thay said it was pretty cool (that's a direct quote). Overall a great dinner out for the whole family. I had forgotten how close it was to Ocean Street, Santa Cruz too. Only about 15 minutes (thursday at 7pm). There's a lot of history, I found out, with the Tyrolean. I signed up to their email customer list and the next day I got a discount coupon. I have also friended their facebook page so I don't accidentially miss Maifest this year. I don't know what jetty's problem was, maybe just a cranky impatient group of tourists? Oh well, can;'t please everybody all the time right. The four of us were served propmtly and the portions were great. We split two desserts because we were so full. The apple strudel and choco-hazelnut crepes were killer! Thank's Tyrolean. In the words of our Ex-Governor, I'll Be Back.
Very disappointing. We made a reservation a day in advance and were the first group there for an early dinner. It took an entire hour to get our food and the waitress was indifferent, finally reporting a short staffed kitchen and offering to put our beverages on the house. Even without beverages, and with a mandatory 18% tip, we spent $125, and contrary to other reports, the portions were not at all generous. I had asked for a substitution for one item in my dinner and it didn't happen though my own dinner was the last to appear. With hungry teenagers, we all ended up heading out to get ice cream elsewhere afterwards (We didn't dare order desserts that would probably have taken another half hour.). We were especially disappointed because we had a lovely time at the Tyrolean years ago, and had brought our German daughter-in law and a German exchange student with us for what we thought would be a special treat. Not one of the staff that night spoke a bit of German, in spite of their cutesy costumes. Our guests were not impressed.
My boyfriend and I went to Ben Lomand especially to eat at the Tyroleon Inn Restaurant because it was recommended on a program on television that gave it quite a rating and recommendation. They were absolutely right! The ambiance, the service and the food were nothing but the best. They earned their 5 star rating in my book. And we plan on going back again...real soon! If you want to get away for a real nice dinner, this is your place. Shop in the little town's antique shops, and at 5pm, go have dinner!! You will come out of there completely satisfied. It is well worth the drive.
