I've been looking for a decent sushi place in San Rafael and went to this based on past ratings. This place was empty when we got there (on a Friday night, not a great sign) and the maki looked like it had been sitting on the boats for DAYS. I only had the sushi and although what you order (not what you pick up from the boats) seems fresh, it didn't have a whole lot of flavor. Everything, from the miso soup to the California Rolls also had a tinge of sweet taste to them that I couldn't identify. On top of mediocre food, all of it was super expensive. Our bill for 2 was over $50 (which I would have happily paid if the food was good) and we had what amounted to 12 pieces of sushi and two orders of mochi that we instantly recognized as mochi from Trader Joe's. Overall, I doubt I'll ever go back, the sushi was ok but not so great as to pay so much for so little.
Our kids love this place and so do we! You can relax at a table and order from a menu with a wide variety of choices like chicken, fish, steak, veggie tempura, noodle soup, dumplings etc., or sit at the sushi bar and pick whatever looks good that comes around on one of the sushi boats! Consistently good food and service. Restaurant is somewhat small and cozy, but I have yet to wait in line to get in. Must not be a lot of people who know it's there or I'm sure there would be a line at dinner time!
