Las Camelias, San Rafael

Having grown up in a big American city, livd in California for nearly 30 years and travelled throughout Central America - I have eaten a LOT of Mexican food. And, in truth, I never really cared much for it. I tolerated it. It was pretty much the same everywhere - both below and above the Rio Grande. Until, that is, I walked into Las Camelias!
The service and ambience are quite nice - but the truly outstanding feature is the food itself! The owner/chef starts with his mother's recipes from Mexico and he builds a menu around them that is made up of truly delicious dishes - each would hold it's own with the best cuisine of any country or culture.
My personal favorites include the Arroz Mexicano, a mountain of rice, seafood and chicken dressed with four dirrerent sauces and the Enchilada con Camerones - an outstanding seafood dish. The beans are white - the service is friendly and attentive - and the atmosphere is warm and inviting.
