Olive Garden? I'm good...
By ,
I love this little italian food restaurant! Not exactly fancy, but if you ask me, I'll take their dishes over Olive Garden's any day. Great proportions for an affordable price!

Great food... great price!
By ,
This is my favorite Italian place in the Berkeley area. It is very reasonably priced, but the portions are still huge and I haven't had anything there that I didn't like. My personal favorites are the simple fettuccini alfredo or pesto dishes. For most people, this restaurant wouldn't cut it for a romantic night out because it doesn't have that type of ambiance, but that didn't stop my husband and me from going there on our anniversary!

I love this place. I always order the crazy alfredo or chkn marsala,it's only $6-7...They make it fast and give you alot. Whenever I am in Berkeley I always try to stop here if i am hungry. I luv the garlic bread(i order extra) the garlic is roasted and it spreads over the bread like butter!mmmm, Im hungry now.

Oh My God...

I've been meaning to try this place out ever since I moved to the Bay Area a year ago. Everyone I know say the same thing... Nicole, you've gotta go to Gypsy's. So I finally bit the bullet and checked it out. It was hard to find at first (It's tucked away in a restaurant Alcove along with a Korean BBQ, Quickly's and a few other places), and once I got there it was extremely crowded. So I checked out their menu. Like any italian restaurant, it was filled with pasta dishes of varieties. Penne, Angel Hair, Fettuccini... you name it, it was there. Meat, Vegetable, Seafood...and Calzones that looked HUGE. After mulling it over, I finally decided on the Frutti di Mara, which is Calamari, Mussels, Clams and Shrimp in a tomato sauce and Angel Hair pasta. Food didn't take long to prepare, and the portions were extremely large. Not only that, but the mussels were large and meaty, which is rare for what you're paying. It wasn't even a situation of quantity over quality. This stuff tastes like something Mom would make....that is, if your mother is great at making Italian food. I'm not good at describing tastes but it all balanced out well...and tasted so good that even 8 hours later, right now, I'm dreaming about having another plateful. And imagine, all for less than 9 bucks. Ladies and gentlemen, if you are in the Berkeley area and you want delicious italian food, look no farther than Gypsies. Trust me, it's worth your 9 bucks. And then some.

Best Italian food around!!
By ,
Gypsy's is the best, the food is outta this world, really cheap, and you get these big portions. I myself live in Concord but traveling to Berkley just to go there makes it worth the time. It is a bit cramped but the way it is decorated is very nice. Its a fun place and those guys work hard...This place is a must. ^_^

I am actually eating Gypsy's food right now. I got Gypsy's chicken, it has mushroom, chicken, the usual delicious garlic bread, and a creamy sauce. It's pretty good, the chicken's a little dry though. My personal favorite thing to get there is the steak Calzone, its huge and it has steak in it (obviously)... and its very yummy. Definitely worth the price for Italian food and the best around but at the same time its not somewhere I would take the trouble to drive to or something... its walking distance so yeah.

Gypsy is a very good food for very cheap price. I can't even thing of anywhere that has pasta for under 10, their calzone is amazing too. This is a popular spot among college students so there's always a long line during peak lunch and dinner hours, but the food comes out quick and you save because they don't have waiters, you order and pick up the food urself. IT'S soooooo WorTH it, give it a try :)
