This is Delhi street food at its best, without the muck and dirt of Delhi. Go there for the food and the flavors, not the looks, service or attitude of the people who work there. If you appreciate them they will only get better.

Vik's indian food is awesome. There is a small menu, but the food is very inexpensive and very, very yummy. It is really popular despite being relatively far from UCB and is in a strange locale. This is definitely because the food is that good.

If you want to know what Indian snack food tastes like, your travels don't have to take you farther than Berkeley. With a wide array of vegetarian and meat inclusive dishes, Vik's is a great place for a snack like bhatura cholle or a more meal like masala dosa. Though the prices have gone up slightly in the past few years, Vik's is an extremely affordable place to go for a meal. I eat here every time I'm in town. In addition, if you are looking for some of the cheapest lentils/beans/spices around, check out the attached store.

I had heard so much about Viks, so finally went there for lunch last week. The service was terrible. The food was not as nice as some of the other restaurants that we have eaten at, but the icing on the cake was when we ordered some tea to go, we were given cups that were too hot to hold, and they would not give us another empty cup so we would not burn our hands...the staff said management does not allow 2 cups...amazing...they would rather have their clients burn their hands than give a 2 cent empty cup..

I really USED to love this place for a quick, moderately priced lunch, but they were so rude to me today that I've decided to never go back. I tried to call in my order (I only work a block away) so that it would be ready by the time I walked over, and then the person on the phone told me my order was too small and they don't take small orders on the phone. I then walked over to order with my dog, and after tying him up out front, an employee told me that I needed to move him somewhere else so the customers couldn't see him through the window. This is a nice golden retriever (a show dog) so he's not threatening or dirty, wasn't blocking the doorway at all... it was just a completely unneccessary request. I have never been treated this rudely at Vik's before today, but I am so offended that I will never return and will share my bad experience with everyone I know to ensure that they don't go there as well. Naan n' Curry is better, anyway.

You order to a busy, yet friendly staff. It's always packed, and it's a pretty huge place. You get the vegetarians, the Indian families, the neighborhood people all coming to stuff face at this restaurant. Decent portions, not pricey, made quickly. Not the largest menu, but what they have is pretty good for fast food Indian. I'll go there again, and I don't eat out very often.

the food is great - we drive almost an hour from santa clara to eat their chole bhature..can't get any better than this in the bay area. esp when all we get in sunnyvale/santa clara is south indian attempt at making north indian food, this place is a haven for roadside food one craves. High points for bringing back the real chaat..and at amazingly low prices.

The lines are long, the parking is terrible on weekends, but wow, it is worth it! Get there early, order a variety of stuff, sit down and wait a short time for you food. The long lines may make you afraid, but most of the food is already made - curries and such. The only downside is the cavernous cieling and funky tables. Otherwise, a delightful experience.

You want India street food go to Viks. Best Place to Eat. Cannot go wrong!

the good - excellent food - usually! sometimes you can tell its made to order! the bad - they call you by name when your food is ready and its super hard to understand them. besides, there are many people with similar sounding names! SOLUTION: they should use numbers instead of names. this is especially a problem when its crowded. secondly, all foods are in south indian language. if you don't know what the food is, you need to go around asking other patrons. SOLUTION: they should have photos of all items next to the names of the item. the ugly - when crowded, not enough seats so you either eat outside in the parking lot/sidewalk, or stand in desperation seeking a soon-to-be-empty spot. SOLUTION: they should have an outdoor patio, or add more chairs inside.
