Vegi Food China
Inside this nondescript, all-vegetarian Chinese restaurant, you will find an informal yet comfortable setting with daily specials tacked up on the blue walls, and some traditional lanterns and statuary. The owner strongly believes in the health benefits of a vegetarian diet (as the news clippings posted to the door will attest) and in having everything fresh and bursting with seasonal goodness. Try vegetarian variations on old favorites, including Chow Mein, Lo Mein and combinations like the Black Mushroom and Greens or Braised Eggplant. For those who miss the texture of meat, there are many dishes made with bean gluten. Cash only.
For all you veggie fans out there, or even if you dig Chinese food, this is the spot to go when you want a quick lunch or a dinner for a family. This small, two-room venue is the perfect spot for large proportioned dishes that are meant to be eaten family-styleeveryone gets a bit of everything. Grab some of your friends or relatives; order the Potstickers, Soybean Sheets with Stir Fried Greens, Sweet and Sour Walnuts, Lo Hon Mixed Vegetable Chow Mein, and brown rice for two, and youll be able to feed a family of four for under $30. A Vegi Food advocate since the womb, senior Alex Pfeifer-Rosenblum says, Its a party in my mouth!
been going there for about 25 years and even though we moved away we still go when we are visiting the bay area. the waitress remembers the family and it's always so much fun. sweet and sour walnuts and fried wontons are our favorites
Vegi Food is tucked away in Berkeley, but is never fogotten to anyone who has been there. The family owned business has a warm and charming environment with dishes that are plentiful, and mouth watering. Best place to take anyone new in town. My favorites are the soybean sheets, spicy cabbage, any one of the noodle dishes, and the fried won tons. You'd forget that everything's vegetarian!
The food was bland and the two dishes we ordered tasted the same. I ordered the spicy bean curd over brown rice and it was the least spicy thing I've ever had. It should have been titled the MILD bean curd. However, the steamed pot stickers were good and the portion sizes were large for what we paid.
The second time I went to Vegi Food the owner remembered me and my order...and has never forgotten either in the last seven years. The food is sensational, particularly the pot stickers (best I've ever had, meat or vegi), soy bean sheets and sweet and sour walnuts. I bring all my friends there whenever I have a chance and although I nolonger live in Berkeley, I regularly make time to enjoy their food.
My wife and I have been dining at this restraurant for about twenty years. The food has always been excellent along with nice friendly service. I especially recomend the fried wonton and the braised bean curd with black mushrooms and greens , but that's a biased opinion and just my two favorites so don't be limited by my choices, they have a complete menu with lots to choose from. Though they are strickly vegetarian, meat eater or not, this is probaly the best chinese restaurant in town.
