Long Life Vegi House
The decor here is odd, yet the wood paneling is somehow comforting as you sit beneath the immense paper lanterns and the giant swordfish. Long Life believes a veggie diet is the secret to a long life, and its expansive menu is testament to the fact that the taste and skill of authentic Chinese cuisine can be delicious and inexpensive. It offers soy protein dishes and wheat gluten like Kung Pao Vegi Beef. The seafood is real, however, and includes Lobster Creamed Sauce Prawns. It offers a weekend Dim Sum brunch where dumplings and buns can be had for pennies.
This place used to be really good. They are cheap for the amount of food you get BUT they are not consistent. Sometimes you get a really small portion and sometimes you get a big one. Anyway, the staff is also not very nice and they can't answer any of your questions about the ingredients that they use. The long life tofu is the best though :P
I love this place. Cheap for lunch and dinner and their service is good too. The food is great! Veggie's always fresh and I have not been able to find another place closer to home that makes the food as good as Long Life Veggie!!! Try it you will like it!
Like others have said this is not the restaurant you go to when you are trying to impress a date. However the ambiance is very comfortable, it's not fancy but it's also not cheap and depressing with fluorescent lights and white walls.
The food is great, some of the best chinese food I have ever had and the menu is so diverse! It's great for lunch because they are quick and you can eat for under five dollars!
The service is great. You hardly have to wait for anything and everyone is very nice and helpful.
In response to the person allergic to MSG: an allergy to MSG is really an allergy to free glutamate. Free glutamate is present in many foods naturally and it is also present in hydrolysed proteins which are what usually make up fake meats. So while I don't know if they lied about adding MSG or not, it is likely that they don't add MSG and the allergic reaction was to free glutamate present in whatever you ate. So if you are trying to avoid eating MSG for belief reasons, Why would they lie about it? If you are trying to avoid MSG for allergy reasons then maybe you shouldn't go here. I would ask your doctor more about your allergy if you're interested.
Beware all who may be allergic to MSG...they claimed not to have used it...
ha...there was so much of the stuff in my food that I started seeing flashing lights halfway through my meal...a two-day killer migraine followed, the likes of which I had never experienced before or after...
hint to the management...long life = veggies, short life = veggies covered with chemicals and excito-toxins.
