The food is pretty much always good here. The service, however, can not be said to be the same. It's usually pretty slow, and they even sat us inside once, only to move us outside into the cold without us having a chance to disagree. (The heat lamps usually don't work outside). Luckily, the food is good.

i have only been there for takeaway and people have been extremely friendly - i was also offered some tea while waiting. Only drawback that it takes a while if you cannot order before you get there. But the food is delicious and makes up for it.

This place is one of the cooler sushi restaurants I’ve been to in a long time. The set up is totally unique and refreshing. I’m tired of all the fancy restaurants that try too hard. Joshuyas is very homey and reminds me a lot of Monster Sushi in the East Village. Last Thursday, my boyfriend and I went to joshuyas to celebrate our three year anniversary. It was packed inside, so we ended up getting seated outside, which was perfect because the weather was great. After being seated, we got drinks and a sashimi appetizer to start. Both were fantastic. I’d recommend the salmon for starters along side of Aladdin Cold Sake. For our entrees, we both shared three rolls: The Lion King, Lucky Danny and the Zoolander. One word to describe them: YUMMY. My favorite was the Lucky Danny. Overall, I would recommend it to anyone who wants simple tasty food.

Last weekend, a group of friends and I were looking to try out a new sushi restaurant. After arguing for hours, we somehow ended up at joshuyas. At first, we were a little disappointed, because it was a busy night and we could not get a table. We ended up having to sit at the bar, which turned out SUPERR! We met the funniest sushiman ever. I cant remember his name, but i'm definitely going back to see him again. He made us some terrrific rolls. THEY WERE HUUUGE. we all got rolls, except for one, who ended up getting chicken katsu and something else. I don't like fried food in general, but the katsu was goood, especially with the housemade sweet sauce they served it with. Now on to more important matters...The drinks were surprisingly cheap. We all got the same beer, but tried out two different cold sake between the five of us. Let me just say that if your a girl, GET the SAYURI NIGORI. its pink and hard to miss. =) I dont think this place is very well known, but its definitely worth trying. SO GO and experience some scrumptious japanese food.

This place is GREAT. I just moved down here from LA, where we have some great japanese restaurant. Joshu-ya's had some amazing rolls. They were large, had great quality, and were just so so tastey. It was a pleasant day, so we sat in the garden where we were lucky enough to enjoy the weather. I'd recommend this place if you haven't been.

It's an amazing Korean style fusion sushi place. I highly recommend ordering the ARK ROLL. It's not on the menu but it's a really delicious mega-roll with shrimp and vegetable tempura, lemon, and crab wrapped up in rice and sushi paper topped with raw salmon. Absolutely heavenly!

My family and I tried this restaurant last weekend, and it was probably the best decision of the night. The sushi was super fresh. The maki rolls were ENORMOUS, DELICIOUS, and so so BEAUTIFUL. The restaurant is a bit small on the inside, but has a lovely feel to it. Its very cozy and home-like and the service is quick. If you want to eat some amazing sushi rolls for a good price, or simply go out for a fun night of drinks, I'd recommend this place, hands down.

I ordered sashimi over rice, that simple, and the waiter brought me chirashi. I did not eat it. The waiter asked me if something was wrong and I explained him his mistake. He told me that that was what I ordered and left. Then, the manager asked me if something was wrong. They could tell since I did not touch my wrong order. I explained to him the situation again. He told me to order something else. I did not order. I was pretty sure they were not going to charge me for the wrong plate but I did not order a new plate because but that time I was angry and disappointed. The waiter pretty much denied his error and left. He never came back to refill our water or tea. As I said I was pretty sure that they were not going to charge me the wrong order but they did. I did not even eat it but they charged me the wrong order. What would happen if I ordered a second plate? Maybe they would charged me both. The worst is that I lived across the street and I was a regular client. They knew me but they did not have the courtesy to either admit their error or give me the wrong plate at no cost. I stop going there.

I have celebrated my birthday at Joshuya's for the last 5 years. The food is delicious, the service is friendly, the ambiance is lively and the food is well worth their prices. This combination of excellence makes Joshuya's my favorite Sushi place in the Bay. (I particularly enjoy their tempura & sushi plate!)

I love this place...I just moved up to the area from LA in Sep '06 and this is the best japanese restaurant that ive been to out here so far. The food is great and the atmosphere is cozy and fun. I always take my friends that visit from southern cali to this spot and they usually want to go back to Joshu-Yas one last time before they leave.
