this place has the worse waitstaff. we had to get our own menus, had to flag down the bus boy to find our waiter, i don't know how many times. we had to send back our water glasses as they were filthy with lip prints and finger prints on them! the same for the drink. my martini glass was covered in lip marks all around. also, they serve very cheap liquor in their cocktails, you can tell right away. oh, and i ordered a bellini which is a blended drink that is orange in color. they served me a clear drink and when i said it wasn't what i ordered, the waiter said it was but they don't have a blender. a bar without a blender??? give me a break. and last but not least, the women's bathroom was never checked...no toilet paper!!!! and it was dirty! no i will not be returning there again.
I found Maxwell's Lounge online and after a little internet research I thought it would be a nice place outside of SF to visit. I was WRONG! The entire staff including the owner are unprofessional and uncouth. The crowd seemed to be a variety of Afro Americans ONLY. From the super sheik business type to the dressed up corner drug dealers. The drinks were overpriced and underpoured and the food was disgusting. It's advertised as soul fusion and it was served as funk at a $15-$20 price. I'd rather be at E&J's or In & Out. Sad really...I do not suggest going to Maxwell's...it's not as it seems.
I heard mixed reviews regarding this restaurant. My one party buddy HATES it. However, I wanted to try it out since it had the Buppie (Black yuppie) vibe I'm into and it hosted . Sadly, I didn't even get in the door because the chick on the phone hung up on me! I called to follow-up my initial call regarding the reservation and she told me they don't take reservations (the website says they do) and I should get there early because it's first come first served. I should have realized the service was a little . . . uh, tacky since they couldn't even call me and tell me I couldn't make reservations!
Yes, you can definitely say that I will never patronize this restaurant.
This place is never consistent when it comes to food. I dined there on March 2, 2007 and ordered a side of Mac N' Cheese. It was so good. I was looking forward to ordering it, again. I was attending a friend's birthday dinner 4/27/2007 and ordered mac N' cheese, again. My friend also order some. My dish came out half full and her's came out filled the brim of the bowl. Like it suppose to. Usually there is a burnt, crispy ness on the top. Ours came out looking like someone smoked a cigarette and blew smoke across the mac N' Cheese. Ugh!!!!
Maxwells is a mature restaurant & bar lounge. Good food and good people. Saturday nights are the best for dancing. Far as the food...Try the catfish :) and if you drink a cadillac margarita is nice to have.
I recently celebrated my 24th birthday at Maxwell's. I had a really good time, my main focus was to have all of my family and friends with me, have dinner& drinks, enjoy the ambiance, sing Happy B'day, cut some cake then send the kids home and hit the dance floor. It all worked out!
