This chic little eatery in the Gourmet Ghetto shows that trendy tapas can hold their own with traditional restaurants. With subdued lighting, pale woods, and a more mellow atmosphere, Cesar is far from the rowdy, happy hour tapas places you will find in the big city. Enjoy specialties like the Endive Watercress Salad, Lentil Soup, Roasted Grapes al Jamon, and Baby Clams in Mojo Verde. The alcohol list is extensive indeed (pages long as a matter of fact) with many specialty and imported liquors and a nice selection of complementary wines.
I thought this place was kinda small but the atmosphere for just hangin out with one other person was nice. It was kinda loud there thou. Having small plates was nice! It was a nice and intimate. The prices were great. I loved the chorizo sandwich and the lamb chops. The drinks were great. If you are looking for a place for just appetizer meals, nothing heavy this is a place to hang out. Service was nice too. We went on a Thursday night and it was packed for a small place. I highly recommend it!
One word – AMAZING! My wife and I went to Cesar for a leisurely Sunday lunch. An expensive lunch is not something we normally do, but we decided to treat ourselves and we were not disappointed. The service was great and the food was outstanding. This is probably the best restaurant we’ve been to recently.
Cesar is a tapas restaurant so you get the opportunity to try several dishes. We tried the following, all of which I would highly recommend.
tapa del dia: wild mushrooms with herbed mashed potatoes, $8.75
blood orange, pomegranate & spinach salad with house-smoked duck, $6.75
california swordfish a la parrilla with romesco, $10.75
spanish cheeses: murcia al vino, urgèlía & iberico, $7.75
lomo embuchado, membrillo allioli, & queso fresco, $7.75
The last dish was recommend by the bartender and brought a huge smile to my face. It’s a tasted baguette filled will thinly sliced spiced pork, cheese and a sweet sauce. Incredible! A Must Have!
Cesar is a great date place. They are a tapas driven spanish influenced restaurant with a great wine menu and a lively, casual crowd. They have a few tables that are front-patio style which are decent for fresh air, and while typically busy are not so crowded that it's a problem to wait more than a 10 or 15 minutes (the few times I've been there). Because Tapas is such a great experience to share food, drink wine, and I just love the spanish versions of both (food and wine), this is one of my regulars.
