We went there for dinner on a Friday evening, around 6 pm and after we sat down at a table, we waited, and waited, and waited ... we kept staring towards the back to get their attention, we waved at them ... they couldn't possibly not have seen us.
Two tables away from us, another couple with a child were trying for the last 30 min to get someone to bring them their bill.
The place was not even half full at the time. I walked up to get someone's attention in the back, and it was hopeless. They were back there (three of them) chatting about something or other. Eventually, they noticed I was standing and waving my hands, and said they will be there in a minute. By the time someone eventualy decided to come take our order, we were getting up and leaving.
Can't possibly comment on the food, because we gave up waiting for them and left.
Since I moved here 1.5 years ago, I had been searching for great Thai food, since I had found the most wonderful restaurant near my previous residence. However, my search was proving to be almost impossible, as time after time I was completely disappointed with the no-flavor Thai food I encountered, and I tried MANY places. So, I lowered my standards and hoped that I could just find DECENT Thai food in the Berkeley area. Imagine my surprise when I tried Thai Delight in Berkeley, despite the previous review (most restaurants have this problem once in a while; it's how they handle the customer's complaint that's most important). Their menu includes regular food (regular prices) and organic food (at organic prices). I tried the organic red curry chicken with vegetables. Wow! I couldn't believe that I had found actual Thai food with flavor (like I had eaten in Thailand, only less spicy, thank goodness). I even spoke with the owner, A (that's her nickname, just the letter A). Very nice lady. I immediately programmed their phone number into my cell phone, and I plan on going back often, probably once a week minimum. Well, maybe more for the next few weeks, since I have a severe drought of good Thai food in my system and need to make up for lost time ...
I when to this restaurant based on a friends good reviews, the 1st time I when the customer services was ok, but I thought the food was pretty good. So, I went back a second time with a friend and to my suprise the two tinybugs in my dish which was the eggplant basil and Curry Chicken. This was a total turn off, the tinybugs at 1st could be mistaken as the some of the spices but once a person took a closer look the little legs could be seen. Yuck.... I am completely disgusted and will never go back. Quality food and service is what make the restaurant without that you can't expect to stay in business long.....
Cons: Cooks may not be washing vegetables.....
I first went there because I have health problems and need to eat organic as much as possible. The organic menu is short, since they only list items that are 100% organic, but most of the chicken dishes can be made with organic chicken for an extra charge. The items I've ordered so far are so delicious, it's hard to try anything else. I can't remember names that aren't in front of me, but there's a noodle dish in the non-organic section that I always have made organic--with rice noodles, basil, tomato and other vegetables, sometimes including fennel. Sometimes I have to just turn around wherever I am and drive there. My other
favorite is red curry with pumpkin and organic chicken. It's one of those sauces you lick from the dish.
The setting is very pleasant without being at all fancy. The glass covered tables all feature placements underneath with pictures of traditional fruit carving--intricate flowers and birds made from guavas, canteloupes, apples and so on. The service is prompt and friendly and the prices are very reasonable. Most non-organic dishes are around $7-9 and the organic ones start at $11.
Yummy Thai food at very reasonable prices, with tons of variety and soul. The staff was kind, and overall the place was clean, efficent, and can I say again, the food was great. Fresh, tasty, and healthy. I can't wait to go back!
