Sushi Banzai, Berkeley

Hide Nagano is the owner and chef of Sushi Banzai. Born and raised in Japan he trained under sushi chef's in Japan and has brought his skills to America. One of Hide's first jobs in America was at the first Yoshi's restaurant on Claremont Avenue in Oakland. He decided to open his own Japanese restaurant and in 1989 Sushi Banzai opened its doors. A family restaurant with a warm environment Hide's wife Chieko Nagano cooks the food in the kitchen while Hide creates the sushi. One of the only Japanese sushi chef's left in Berkeley Hide's sushi keeps authentic Japanese sushi alive
