Venus - Berkeley
Venus features the best of our local foodshed, from local farms, waters and ranches, served in warm and lovely style in the heart of Downtown Berkeley. A favorite dinner spot for theater goers, Venus devotes itself to local and organic purveyors, creating delicious Northern California style dishes. The wine list focuses on bio-dynamic, and sustainably farmed grapes, and a "New World" style of wine-making, where the fruit expresses itself. An open kitchen and banquette seating create a cozy vibe. Chef Amy Murray is a 15 year veteran of the organic, farm-to-table movement. Menus are created each month to highlight the best of the season and evoke good appetites. Venus also serves a unique brunch and lunch, and offers uncommonly good beer, wine and light cocktails. We are happy to do small parties and buy outs, and tasty lunch catering.
What a charming, delicious place to eat! A little crowded when full but worth it! Nicely priced, fresh specialties and lucious desserts! This was dinner and I hear you gotta go back for breakfast and lunch! Amy is a
food master and a warm, lovely friendly lady (she owns Venus).
Don't miss it!
5 years at Cal, and I never ventured down to this wonderful restaurant. I visited Venus almost last Sunday, almost 10 years after I graduated :-} Ingredients were very fresh. And coffee was dark and strong, just the way I like it. However, I made a mistake of ordering Harajuku scramble - basically tofu stir fry. Omelettes, Eggs Benedict and French Toast were much better. 6 people brunch came to about $100 with tips.
their salads are creative, refreshing, and generous. Our guests have repeatedly told us how they liked this restaurant when we took them there on their visits. Service is down to earth, efficient, and friendly
I went here on a Sunday afternoon, surrounded by couples on dates, yet still was able to get a table in under 20 minutes. It's cramped, but the volume level was calm and the pretty pictures on the brick walls fill in the silence nicely. The Pumpkin Pancakes are delicious, if a little small.
Brunch for 2 (with non-alcoholic drinks) was $30 before tax & tip.
I'm hesitant to rate this because I love the fact that I can always get a table at Venus when lines for La Note wrap around the block... but anyway...
Venus has become one our favorite Berkeley restaurants. The food is wonderful... interesting salads with organic greens... Great entrees, including vegetarian options... Niman ranch chicken and meats... The menu is versatile and varied, and it's a restaurant that always delivers for us. A favorite.
