I must admit to being puzzled by all the glowing reviews here. I have been to the Fat Lady many times and at best this is an average restaurant. The ambiance is indeed great and the restaurant has an interesting history, but that's about it. Cozy? This restaurant is a claustrophobic nightmare. Tiny, narrow, cramped, it seems it's always full and difficult to move around, much less sit if you have a large party. The food is good, but certainly not great and really not that special compared to other restaurants. And the service is just plain awful. They are friendly and apologetic, but you will wait forever for your food, if you get it at all. And then you may not get what you ordered. Or some in your party will get their food first while you are stuck waiting. Or the main dish comes first and they bring the soup or salad later. Yes, I have experienced all of this.
Extremely overrated in my opinion.
This restaurant is absolutely fabulous! Definitely making this a part of our favorite rastaurants ! The halloween decorations are something to envy , cant wait to see what christmas will bring. The brunch menu looks ever more inviting. The staff was happy and the place was packed on a wed. night. They replaced my husbands drink ,even half drank [too much vermouth] no question!
The prices are great! And we had a sweet anniversary complete with a complimantary photo. WE LOVED IT ALL 9 yr love birds
I was taken here by a friend. I had the Wild Mushroom Risotto. I LOVED this resturant; good food, a decent (albeit small) wine/spirits list. The house Merlot was excellent and an excellent price. The olives are divine!
The decor and ambiance is very old-world. Very charming and the Fat Lady watches you and protects you while you eat. I felt I was eating at a little chateau in Paris.
All in all, I had a lovely time. The waitstaff was well-organized, quiet, and prompt. It is in the heart of Jack London Square. Eat here; you can't go wrong!
I absolutely LOVE this restaurant!!!!! The first time I went here I was treated by a company along with my cousin and sis.....we were truly spoiled that evening!! The Lamb is mouth watering...along with the Cheese and Bread apptizer, Beef Wellington, Seafood Bisque.....yea I've been back plenty of times...lol! Can be expensive however its well worth it, especailly for a couple! The staff are great aswell.
Sometimes the service is a lil slow, but over all I've ALWAYS enjoyed my time at this resturant. It's the place to have that quiet cozy dinner with someone special, or have that drink and a burger with a friend.
After you just finished watching that movie ( Across the street at the movies) stop by and grab a bite to eat!
Food can be hit and miss.
The steak is the best bet ,also the greek salad. As a place to frequent, maybe once or twice as the staff is not very attentive.
Would be nice place for romantic dining, but a little noisy for conversation
I took a friend to the Fat Lady as a birthday dinner and I was superbly pleased with my choice. The atmosphere was wonderful. The place is full of intriguing paintings and antiques that give it a great feel. The staff was very nice and the bartender made a great drink. I had the Mediterranean pasta salad and it was delicious! My friend had the stuffed chicken and it too was wonderful. When we went to leave the owner herself stopped us and took a picture for us with a cute little complementary paper to celebrate my friend's birthday. The place was wonderful and located so close to all the shopping at Jack London Square that I plan to go back as often as I can.
