I was recently in Oakland for a graduation. Our celebration dinner was held at Siam Bay where we were treated to excellent service and exceptionally delicious Thai food. It was fresh and served steaming hot. Our Meung Kum appetizer was a deliciously new experience for most guests - and their 'special sauce' for it was fabulous. The final bill was the best part - a true bargain. It was a memorable evening thanks to the staff at Siam Bay.
There's something stale about this place.
I fannot figure why Yahoo has it rated 4.5 stars.
Prices not so low.
Ambience rather dark.
Service rather slow.
Food rather off.
Who knows, maybe it's better for lunch specials.
Siam Bay is our favorite place to meet in Oakland. My family cherishes our times there. The friendly service and excellent food make us feel at home. In fact, when in Oakland, my son and daughter-in-law will not go anywhere else for dinner!
One reviewer commented that serving whole fried fish was creepy and hard work, but this is the way folks in Thailand like to eat their fried fish, very authentic indeed. Well balanced spices and textures, although if you like your Thai food more than mild to medium spicy, you will need to let them know as most dishes are toned down quite a bit for sensitive farang palates. Tell the waiter you like it hot and spicy! Very friendly service with no pretensions, and good, hearty Thai food. Forget the gentrified and overrated Le Cheval next door, this is real SouthEast Asian food.
I have never been disappointed with a meal here, good, authentic thai food with great service and smiles. One of my favorites here is simple pad kee mao (Drunken Noodles). Order this one extra hot and spicy, excellent with a frosty Beer Singha. It seems difficult to find a pad kee mao that is truly authentic and not swimming in sugar, this is one the best I've had.
