Jiro Japanese Restaurant, Union City

Now the slices of fish are so thin. You get more rice then anything else now. If you want teriyaki it’s still pretty good. But don’t go for the sushi

THIS RESTURANT IS SMALL AND COZY AND PERFECT PLACE TO GET WITH SOME FRIENDS! CHOOSE BETWEEN A TABLE OR THE SUSHI BAR! EVERYONE IS NICE AND WELCOMING! THERE IS NO OTHER JAPANESE PLACE I'D RATHER SPEND MONEY AT! DINE IN OR ORDER OUT! EVERYTHING AT THIS PLACE IS WONDERFUL! GO TO JIRO'S!!!!

Although they lack a little in customer service, it doesn't seem intentional. The people are great and the sushi is fresh.

Food is pretty good, probably the top sushi spot in Union City. Don't expect authentic Japanese, as the folks running it are Korean. There are better Japanese choices in either Hayward or Fremont. Service is terribly slow... not that any of the wait staff is rude or lazy, but on the weeknights I've been there, there were only 2 waitresses to serve a full restaurant! Poor girls! You feel sorry for them running ragged trying to serve everyone. The owner needs to stop being a cheapskate and hire 1 or 2 more servers. Other than that, it's a good spot... just don't go there if you're in a rush.

The food is good. I haven't been disappointed with that, but my last visit was a little disappointing for the service. First they brought me the wrong order, then attempted to convince me that that was what I had ordered, then when they brought out the correct order, they only brought half of it and I had to wait for them to correct that as well. If it is possible for you to go there for lunch instead of dinner, I would recommend that as the menu and portions are identical, but lunch is about half the price as dinner. Not very good for groups though since the dining area is small.

My wife and I have been going to this place for about a year. It has standard Japanese fair and a few Korean dishes. I love the sizzling dishes like NY Steak Teriyaki and my wife likes their rolls. For the two of us, we spend about $30-$40. It can get busy on Friday and Saturday. The staff gets a little overwhelmed, but my wife and i just gives them a friendly reminder and we usually get our food quickly. Ask and you shall recieve. We love to come on a regular day like Tuesday and Wednesday because there is less people and the atmosphere is more enjoyable. The atmosphere is friendly and fun.

We didn't get water or tea until we asked for it. The table was greasy. The food was not Japanese food, in fact, it was Korean-Japanese. Very disappointed.

Jiro Sushi/Japanese. The food was just okay.. nothing great. We got a table right away, but we never got water, tea, or anything to drink (even acknowlegement of being at the table for over 30 mins. Then we got menu's . we ordered and waited about 20 mins plus for the food, which was a bit fishy ( the sushi did not seem fresh) then we had to prod them for the bill. we ended up just going up to the front and requesting. the entire ordeal took over 2 hours. I DO NOT RECOMMEND THIS PLACE AT ALL

Their Honey-Walnut Prawns are delicious as well as their Chinese Chicken Salad -both are perfect take-outs on a hot summer evening! We always call ahead on the way home from work. The restaurant dining service is attentive and the food is always steaming hot and an excellent value. Now my grandson asks to go there!

My family has gone to the restraurant for more that 6 years. It is always good. The food is great the sushi is fresh. And you are always greeted with a smile and loud welcome.
