My wife and I stayed for a night at Auberge Du Soleil. We were very disappointed as we also had to wait and wait for dinner. The food and pairings were mediocre.
We will probably never return. A waste of money.
Auberge du Soleil is located at the top of a country drive in between St. Helena and Calistoga. The building is peach toned and the dining area includes an outdoor patio with an expansive view of the valley and its vineyards. The deck is weathered old gray redwood. The service is at a snail's pace, but with all of the required pleasantries. Not a thing is hurried, which, at times was fine, but there were moments when it would have been nice if our waiter had shown up. The food is impeccable, and the wine list is well chosen. Not a single dish I, nor my companions, have had here in my two visits has been less than perfect. The last trip we tried the carpaccio of ahi tuna nicoise, which was fresh, well flavored and refreshing; the marinated florida shrimp; creamed asparagus soup; and the baby beet with goat cheese salad to begin. While it is hard to ruin these items, unless you overcook the shrimp, this kitchen turns out a quality product flawlessly, which is likely why auberge maintains the high ratings it has garnered. The halibut was also perfect, served with a bouillabaisse sauce and well complemented by the chardonnay we chose. It is a wonderful restaurant with a relaxed atmosphere; it is nice that the inn is not stuffy, and rather a place to stop on a napa wine tasting trip. 4.3
Auberge du Soleil is a paradise unparalleled especially for those who would like to get away from the city and unwind. It nestles on a hill overlooking a breathtaking view of vineyards and wineries in Rutherford in Napa Valley. My partner and I ate at the restaurant days before the wedding and tried their menu. Food was good and the place is reaaly something you will never forget. I highly recommend this place.
