we had dinner here for my bday and the service was excellent but some of the dishes not so much. i would suggest to stick with steak as some of the other dishes are not as great. the people who did not order steak in my party did not enjoy the food. however their clam chowder is one of the best!
If you like the menu at Kincaid's Bayhouse (in Jack London Square) and Skate's (on the Berkeley Marina) then you'll like Horatio's because the menu and ambiance is almost identical. Horatio's has a vast and savory selection of seafood and California eats. Its also kid-friendly with a reasonably priced kid's menu and at-the-table-drawing-activities to keep the little ones occupied until your food arrives. However, don't be fooled be the casual attire of diners, dinner for two with drinks, dessert and appetizers easily comes close to $100.
We started with the Horatio's appetizer which had generous helpings of coconut prawns, steak tenderloins, and an exquisite crab dip with big chunks of crab meat baked in. My entree consisted of a moist piece of King Salmon that was lightly seasoned and melted in my mouth. It was accompanied by 3 tiger prawns the size of mini-lobsters, drizzled with Vermouth butter with just a hint of lemon. We were too stuffed to sample the desserts, but i'd imagine it would be equally scrumptious. Next time, I hope to meet Horatio himself to tell him his restaurant rocks oh and to also try the Asiago Scallops!
The food is fabulous. We were not happy with the service at all, however we will definitely give it another try. Our server may have simply had a difficult day. She did apologize (several times) for failing to acknowledge us, take our order, bring our drinks, re-fill our glasses, offer desert or even bring our bill. We are not demanding or picky diners at all but this was pretty bad.
We'll try this place again because the food was worth giving it another chance.
went to horatio's over the labor day weekend using there coupon and was disappointed with the meal as was my wife. They're touting their new menu as something great not so the old menu was better and more diversified their prices are astronomical. This is the first time I have seen grits on a menu in the state of california when I questioned the waitress she replied I guess you're not from the south which I am not much prefer california home ground food. The service was so-so a better meal can be had at spanger's in Berkley for the same price without a coupon
This is thee place to go for the ultimate dining experience, all of their food is exceptional quality, and there the best that Ive seen in the Bay Area.
One note all thow... If you have to look at the prices when ordering, then you shouldn't bother eating there.
