The oakwood smoker fills the restaurant with aromas of BBQ baby back ribs and tea-smoked Peking duck. Specialties include Seared Ahi Tuna on sesame crackers and Crispy Calamari tossed with curried slaw. The eclectic wine list features hard to find gems from California, the American Northwest, & South America.
Napa Icon Restaurant... Small and quaint.. excellent food.. little pricey but you would expect it when you see what they serve.. not a burger place.. although they have a really good burger.. good wine selection.. worth a little wait..
I recently celebrated a birthday with family at Mustard's. The service was excellent and the waiter was attentive and patient. We've enjoyed Mustard's for the last 15+ years and never had an issue with service or the menu. The manager came by and asked about our meals and was very pleasant. I casually mentioned that I was celebrating my birthday and chose this restaurant because it was a favorite of mine. As we were winding down our meal, he came by and presented me with Cindy Pawlcyn's Appetizers cookbook. How special was that? Service and being treated in such a way was very special. I recommend this restaurant - the pork chops were delicious.
All in all, we loved it.
My mother used to live in San Francisco for a few years back in the 70's, but had never been to Napa Valley. As her birthday gift, we visited the area as it was her dream to experience what she missed out on. Being that she's more casual than I am, but she still wanted to have a first class dinner to celebrate her birthday, we chose Mustards Grill. What a perfect place. It's not pretentious at all as it was very much pleasant.
We started with the Mini Colorado Lamb Chops. It was a little dry, but still quite tasty. The sauces that came with it though were outstanding and really added to the dish. For our main courses, we both had duck. She had the Tea-smoked Peking Duck as I had Duck Confit, which was the Special Of The Day. There was an issue again of overcooking with my mother's duck being a little dry, but it was still very delectable. The Duck Confit though was amazing: the meat was so tender and flavorful. Both our sides were exquisite and I could not get enough of the Risotto that came with my dish. The Chocolate Birthday Cake they gave my mother was marvelous as well.
I too will offer, like others, that the service did become slow and unattentive as our dinner wore on. Our server was very nice, but lapsed in filling our drinks regularly. After finishing our meal, we waited much too long to pay our bill. It took 10-15 minutes to be served our check, and then another 15 minutes total before our server could take my credit card and then bring the bill back to us for me to sign.
Regardless of my critique of the service, which was more an issue of the length it took to pay the bill, my mother was very happy and she said she would love to come back if we visited again. Personally, I loved the food and the atmosphere.
just spent a week in Napa. Went to many great restaurants.
AVOID THIS RESTAURANT AT ALL COST.
Over priced, hostess staff useless, wait staff marginal, floor manager cannot debone a fish.
Never take a late sitting. All the staff wants to do is get you in and out.
Food was pricey and the value for the price is not there.
Worst place we went to in Sonoma and Napa Valleys.
Avoid it ------- Avoid it ------ Avoid it.
I went to Mustard's Grill last year and had a wonderful experience. It was one of the reasons we wanted to return this year, but the experience was disappointing. The food is good, but there are so many other really good restaurants in the area. It really was the service that I found to be lacking. The first time we were there, the food server was very attentive, as was the bus service. The manager even stopped by to see how things were going. This time our waitress seemed to disappear before the end of our meal. I ordered coffee and asked to see the dessert menu, which she brought. However, by the time I ordered my dessert, I had finished the cup of coffee and would have liked a refill. She didn't deliver the dessert, another server did. It wasn't until she brought us the check that she asked me if I wanted another cup of coffee. By that time, I just wanted to leave. The manager never stopped by, although he was roaming the floor. When we left, no one said good-bye or thank you. Perhaps, I'm being petty, but it's the attention to these details that make a great restaurant stand out; hence, I wouldn't call this a great restaurant.
My wife and I just returned from the Napa Valley and made it a point to have lunch at Mustards. Pricing is reasonable, service attentive and the food was excellent. Would highly recommend this casual, warm establishment.
Boy was this write up wrong. This place was once a road side grill that has been jazzed up to take yuppies on weekend retreat. prices are through the roof. with certain items having no price listed. it is a cracker box where you are squeezed in and at anytime you could have a waitress butt working the next table, hovering above your salad. pricey and low on atmostphere
