Miguels Restaurant, Calistoga

Very good .. If you love authentic Mexican Miguels is very good. Best breakfest in town! The Huevos Rancheros was really good! It is a must stop if going through Calistoga in the morning!

Miguel's in the middle of town on the north side of the main street. Excellent Latin food! The chef owner is from Oaxaca. If you like Mexican restaurants where they use the same sauce on everything, then this jewel is not for you. I had Chili Rellano en Nogada. A wonderful slightly darkened stuffed (with a white-cheese cream moistened rice & corn) Poblano in two plated sauces pomagranite first & a wonderful walnut cream. Daughter had Chicken enchiladas in mole, so subtly complex with a wonderful flavor. These were each about $10! My sisters had tostadas with slightly smokey roasted chicken shreds.

Stopped by for lunch yesterday after a meeting, I was kind of in between the breakfast and lunch period about 11:30 a.m. so I was offered two menus, nice that I could choose. I decided on lunch and ordered the Chicken Enchiladas ($11.95). I asked if they could give me one with the red sauce and one with the green sauce, YES, so that's how I ordered them. The service was slow, interesting because I was one of only 5 people in the place; but after thinking that chips and salsa were not part of the program, about 10 minutes after my being there, here they came, a nice basket of thick crispy warm chips AND some warm sauce, more like an enchilada sauce than a salsa, but it was very good. After another 10 minutes my food came. The enchiladas were very good, the green sauce had great flavor with a medium heat, the red sauce WAS the same sauce that was served with the chips, but it was also good on the food. While I was waiting for my order, a friend called to join me and asked that I order them a chicken taco and fish taco. Both of those were up in less than 5 minutes, so I think my delay may have been due to being the first lunch order of the day. The fish taco was excellent, with nice pieces bite sized pieces served with a mango salsa that complimented it well. The chicken taco had nice pieces of chicken that were cooked or marinated in the same sauce as the enchiladas. Overall, a good meal.

Miguels consistently delivers delicious and authentic Mexican food. The mole is awesome and the recipe comes from the Miguel's Grandmother who was famous for her Mole in Oaxaca. Mole was invented in Oaxaca. The guacamole is spicy and the best anywhere. This is our favorite restaurant in Calistoga!

Everytime I have been there, I have been seated within two minutes. The servers are polite and informative, and the Mexican Cuisine is second to none. Try the Chle Rellanos for a most authentic flavor. Order some chips and salsa and take notice of the fresh ingredients and hot tortilla chips. The modesty and professionalism of this restaurant will earmark it for continued success.Plan to attend often.
