Faz Danville offers celebrated Mediterranean cuisine including dishes such as our fragrant pizzas & fresh flat bread prepared in our wood-burning oven! An inviting patio in a redwood grove is at the heart of this restaurant. Floor to ceiling glass in the lounge, dining and banquet rooms brings the ambiance of the patio into our guests year round.
Went to FAZ for the first time on Sunday, August 3, 2008 around 5 p.m. The restaurant was hosting a private party but we were told we could sit anywhere we wanted in the outside patio area. Our waiter, Jeremy, was fantastic. He recommended a few appetizers which were great and made sure we were getting what we wanted without being overbearing. I'm definitely going back and asking for Jeremy. I like a sense of humor with my food and drink.
Terrible Food, Surly Service: My partner ordered a t-bone steak for $30. It came slanted on top of a baked potato (poor presentation) and was extremely gamey and tender at the same time, which only made it grosser. I got the cannelloni, which had very little sauce with no flavor, just plain tomatoes, a filling that was all flavorless mozzarella, and cheese on top that was not cooked until browned, so basically there was no element of my dish that was well done. Also, the service was terrible. Our waitress was surly, and we had to get up three times to ask her for things. Each time she was standing at the bar inside, looking right out onto our table and doing nothing to help us. When we asked for the check, she came to the table and could see that my partner had not touched his food and she did not ask us how the meal was or show any concern. I have to admit the outdoor patio surrounded by trees and a rock fountain was nice, but it did not make up for the food or the service.
My daughter came up from LA to celebrate my birthday and Mother's Day. I had always wanted to try Faz's. We made reservations for an outside table (even though it was a little cool and windy out). for 7:45 pm. It was the night before Mother's Day. The place was jammed when we arrived and the receptionist said she was waiting for a table with a heat lamp to clear out. One hour and 15 mins later I checked out the outside and there were only 2 heat lamps working and the tables near them were occupied. Just as I went up to her to say we would eat inside she was telling someone else who had just come in that they could be seated right away inside. I glared at her and we were seated. During our whole wait she never came up and offered anything else, or told us how much longer unless we asked. We ordered a bottle of wine and we waited 1/2 hour for wine glasses (as they had to open a box). People who were seated 15 or more mins after us received their meals before us. Our meal arrived about 45 mins. after being seated. I ordered duck with a sauce and I didn't taste much sauce; my husband had swordfish with a sauce and he reported his was very dry. What a waste of time, $ and celebration! On my actual birthday later that week, we ate at home...much quieter, peaceful, and better food!
