Porterhouse Restaurant, San Mateo

Porterhouse Restaurant in San Mateo is a delight. An intimate, enjoyable dining experience with organic beef, range chicken, chops and seafood. Their dining special from 4:30-5:30 is a three course meal for $30 if you can manage to eat early. Service is fantastic and the owner is charming. Their prices may be a little steep (and may be reduced soon) but well worth the experience. With the serving sizes so large, you can count it as two meals! The porterhouse is tender and delicious... suggest you try it soon.

This is an average neighborhood steakhouse. The food is good but not overachieving. Prices are not modest. Dinner here would easily set you back $100 per person after tax and tip. It is a good place but not worth the tab, especially for folks who like to bring their wine--corkage is $25 and they charge for every bottle and try to limit you to just two--a problem if you're a group, say of four or more persons. And why not bring your own wine? That's the joy of finding a good neighborhood place, otherwise you just go to the city, pay the the same tab and get better service and food. But the proprietor of this place doesn't understand the advantage of giving something back, especially to its locale clientele who would keep coming back if they perceive some good value in this place.

The foie gras was way overcooked. The steak was very oily but without taste. The service was very attentive and there were a few large groups that made a lot of loud noise. Definitely will not return to this restaurant ever again.
