For over 25 years, Max's has served America's favorite foods with an upscale style at affordable prices. Boasting "everything you've always wanted to eat," only at Max's will you find a corned beef reuben, chinese chicken salad, ribeye steak, BBQ ribs and portabello mushroom pasta all on the one table. And for those with a sweet tooth, Max's sinful, awarding desserts will keep you coming back for more.
Last evening; not a happy camper. Not too busy, inept waitress, did not bring all of my order at the same time as the others in my party. Substandard offerings; the meat in the Patty Melt I ordered has changed dramatically-I can get the same patty at Sizzler-mystery meat for sure. Waitress had her elbow in my elderly companions' face when serving her selection and mine-how can that be? The quality of the offerings has gone downhill; I know it is expensive to run a restaurant but, hell, raise the price and continue to serve Patty Melts with meat that is identifiable and bring the side dishes with the meal! Will not recommend Max's in the future; what a loss-those Patty Melt's were delicious!
I've come here for lunch several times. It's not cheap, but the service is top notch and the food is excellent. I think on one occasion, there was a guy singing and playing the piano.
Some of the sandwiches I've tried are the pastrami and the club. They come with some pretty good cole slaw or potato salad (I think the hot ones come with fries). It's great food, but I'm not sure if it deserves the ten-dollar price tag. I guess you're paying for the location (Stanford mall = super ritzy). It does feel like a very nice, upscale restaurant, so it's great for a date.
On my last two visits, I must say the food quality has gone from above average to just average. Service was just average and although the serving size is large, I do think they have shrunk their portion sizes. Max's has become just an average place, nothing special.
