I spend a lot of time, searching, searching for the best restaurant hash browns in the USA !! Ole's is the best I have ever found. Perfect...done in the middle, each strand separable, brown crust on the outside...tastes like potatoes... firm, delicious. Way to go!! -Facebook Review Patrick Lueck
As a former 25-year Alameda resident, I can safely say that Ole's is completely over-rated. I always marveled at the weekend crowds of people from out of town willing to wait for over an hour to eat at a crowded greasy spoon. Try Jim's or Marti's instead.
I don't get this place. It must be a tradition for some people to stand in line and eat here as the food is very poor. I have tried the waffles and pancakes and both were of the lowest quality.
If you want a decent breakfast on the Island try Marti's Place or even La Pinata.
If you want to head off the Island try Brown Sugars or Mama's in Oakland.
My wife and I went to this place in Alameda to have breakfast at this place because it always had a line out the door. We were on the impression that it was a great place to be. It was the WORSE place every. The food was not all that good and the service was very, VERY BAD. our waitress did not even say hello or greeted us with a smile (that should have been a clue) she took our order and we never saw her again. I wish I can give her name. If we need something we had to stop the next person or the bus boy. Then BAMM the check pooped up on our table and she did not say anything. This was the first time I NEVER left a tip for a person or we did not finish all our food. The only thing was good were the eggs, you can mess up eggs. We will never eat there again ever and far as a recommendation to my friends, not this life time. The lady that took our money did not even take the time to here what we had to say. We started to tell her about our service and she just made change and said thank you next. WOW after eating there more things went wrong, but it’s a T.M.I moment. To me it gets a BIG FAT F-.
Ole's, is the best breakfast ever known. We have been coming to this place for almost 10 years. The food, service, price and all is perfect. We moved about 100 miles away about 5 years ago, but still try to drive at least twice a month and enjoy great pankakes and waffles. This place always has a waiting line, and its all beause they have great food. Most of the employees also have been there long term which means their food has remained the same for years...... LOVE YOUR FOOD, But mainly your BREAKFAST!
I have been going to Ole's for breakfast on the weekend every weekend for over 9 yrs. You don't do that unless it's the best! My boyfriend and I love the food and the friendliness of their servers. Their ham and cheese omelet is wonderful and filling, Great ham, french toast, pancakes. Well just all of it! If you haven't been you must go!
A great old time diner ambiance with the food being cooked right there behind the counter. Pancakes were the best I have ever eaten and the service was fast and efficient. Only had breadfast but all the food was delicious and the price very reasonable.
I read some of the negative reviews, and I was truly surprised by them. I have only gotten bad service from one waitress - beware of the crusty old lady (no literally she's crusty and old.) But all the other wait staff is fantastic. And the pancakes.... simply put, they are the best anywhere. Everyone I have taken there has enjoyed them. So, if you like pancakes and basic American breakfast/diner food at a good price, try Ole's.
