This last holiday season my son was here from Baltimore and my nephew from Florida - both grew up in Alameda, and the first place they headed was the Taqueria for the best burritos ever! My daughter and I frequent often and she takes burritos back to college whenever she can. Not an eat-in place, really, but more a fabulous take-out. The food is great and the price reasonable. A sure thing :)
Not a sit down, romantic dinner kind of place- but if you are in town for lunch and like good Mexican food this is the place for you. It isn't the cheapest place around but it isn't the most expensive in Alameda either & it is GOOD food. Tips: Just about anything you order is good- if you get the super nachos (YUMMY!) make sure to head to the trash can and pour out some of the extra juice from the meat or the chips will start to get mushy. And if spicy isn't your thing make sure to request NO hot sauce. The staff may seem like they don't speak English, but they will get your order right so don't worry or repeat it twenty times :) BEWARE: During school days the high school students crowd in for their lunch break, but don't worry the lines move pretty quickly and if you're not in a hurry the food is worth the wait.
Ramiro & Sons, or the Taqueria as I like to call it, has the best Burritos in Alameda. You can tell by the line out the door. They have three sizes of burittos, Childs, Regular and Super. The Childs Burrito is just enough for those of us on a diet or if you want something small. It comes with meat, rice, beans, cheese and salsa on a smaller tortilla than the regular and the super. The regular has meat, beans, rice and salsa, you pay extra for cheese on this one. The Super, (my favorite) has everything except guacamole, but it's worth the extra seventy-five cents to get it. You have a choice between Bean & Cheese or Meat. Your meat choices are the standard beef and chicken but you can also get carnitas (pork), carne asada (steak) and chicarones (deep fried pork). They also serve nachos, quasadillas, enchiladas and sometimes have tamales. You want a mexican Ice Cream Bar, just go to the freezer and pull one out, for $1.00 apeice it's not a bad bargin. So if you are looking for a good inexpensive meal head on over to Taqueria Ramiro & Sons, you'll be happy you did.
