The Blackhawk Grille offers a menu filled with innovative flavor combinations, an extensive wine list and a water-side setting to enjoy a meal, cocktail, or bottle of wine in Northern California's beautiful Danville.
I would never go there again! Service was awful and dinner was late and had to cancel a salad and the pizza was burnt and just awful. Don't waste your time or money go to Lauraus new restaurant in Blackhawk with amazing food.
February 2009. My husband and I have been going to Blackhawk Grille for many years now. Partly because it is so very close to home but mostly because the food and warm service has always been excellent. We generally sit at the bar and occasionally mingle with other guests. The service we receive from Chris, Brian and Holly has always been wonderful. Danville is so lucky to have a San Francisco caliber restaurant to enjoy without the drive to the city.
Worst service I have ever received and highly over priced for quality of food and service. The bartenders (Holly & Randy) did not wait on me and my girlfriend for more then 10 minutes from the time we sat down. The bar was not full and Holly did see us come in but was in a conversation with which seemed like her friends at far end of bar and Randy was making drinks. After Holly finally came to take our order we received our drinks & had also asked for water, which we never received. It still took another 10-15 minutes for her to return to asked if we would like to look at menus and another 25 minutes for Holly to return to ask what we would like to order for dinner. The dinners came out incorrect. It took sometime to get the bartenders attention, they sent back the food which took an additional 20 minutes and still came back cold. We paid our bill and left. Too many time of receiving this kind of service. I have been going to this restaurant for at least 12 years. This place has been going downhill for many years. They need to fire the staff, especially the pour quality/service bartenders and replace with quality service oriented people. After all isn't that why we go to out to eat is for service and good food????? I would give this place zero stars for service alone!
I usually do not give only two starts but that is all this restaurant could earn. The overall quality was poor, the windows were dirty, there were some flies buzzing around, and the food was just not fresh or unique in anyway. You are locked into this place while visiting Blackhawk friends or having to attend an event at that mall. I have not found a good restaurant at that mall including the Blue Footed Boobie Canoe Club which I cannot even bring myself to review as it is on par with some of the restaurants you find in the delta that you are forced to eat at after a day on the water ... I have not tried Yotaka however but I have not heard anyone dying to go there either!
After ordering the medallions of beaf, and waiting for quite a while for it to show up it was warm. I did not know that until I cut a piece of one of the medallions. I informed the waitress, that the meat was cold. After about another 15 minute wait my plate shows up again. The meat is hot but now overcooked and the medallion I cut into, is strategicly placed so I won't know it was the same cuts of meat that arrived cold earlier. I actually gave this place a second try, when I returned several months later. This time I ordered what translates to an anchovy salad. The dressing was good and the lettuce was fresh, but no anchovies. Where's the fish? I would recomend that everyone boycotts this place. At least until they get thier act together. About ten years ago I used to come here for dinner at least once a month. The food was always good. As a matter of fact I enjoyed the best double cut pork chop of my life at the Blackhawk Grille. As time went by, they changed owners and head chefs. This place has only gotten more expensive with no improvement on food or service since the change in ownership. This place is the most over priced and over rated restaurant in the area. I think this place is truly a status symbol only. It only survives because the people who eat there dont know what a good meal at a good price is. Avoid this place
The service at Blackhawk Grille is spotty at best. We know that going in. It's kind of a running joke with my wife and I. Why do we go? It's close to home and every so often, the stars align and the food is perfect. Not so on Valentines Day! Wow. The food was poor at best and we were virtually ignored by our servers. That's it for us. It is very expensive for the quality of food and service.
I really didn't want to group Danville's Blackhawk Grille in with that list of past Valentine's Day restaurants. You know the kind I'm talking about - the kind that promise a romantic Valentine's Day atmosphere, wonderful service and incredible cuisine. The kind that book up to a month in advance and you're sure, because it's so difficult to get into, that it MUST be good.
And the same kind of restaurant that leaves you shaking your head in disgust as you leave. I really wanted the Blackhawk Grille to be different. Didn't want to put it in that list, but it gave me no choice.
The Blackhawk Grille is the epitomy of the restaurant that capitalizes on certain holidays by over-promising and under-delivering in such a way you feel robbed.
In short, we entered an over-crowded, noisy restaurant and were seated at a table behind a partition near the kitchen - the kind of table that's typically found in the storage closet because it only makes an appearance on holidays like Valentine's Day and New Year's when the restaurant is at maximum capacity.
Our server completely forgot about us as soon as our sub-par entrees were dropped off. He re-took our dessert orders and forgot to bring out our last wine pairings that came with each course. After we asked a bus boy, our server returned with the drinks just before he brought our check, and there was no hint of acknowledgement for what happened. And, while every other table was presented with a rose for the lady, we quietly left the restaurant, sans flower or smile.
Now, I'm not saying the Blackhawk Grille is hopeless - on a non-holiday evening where the kitchen isn't so crowded that it sacrifices its food quality and you perhaps have a server not named Mathew, you could have a good experience.
But as a result of this Valentine's Day restaurant and all that came before it, we're finally learning our lesson and staying home next year.
