For a fine Italian dinner in the Marina, try this neighborhood favorite Ristorante Parma. The narrow but comfortable dining room is simple and charming with whitewashed brick walls. The pasta is a good choice in varieties like Smoked Salmon and Asparagus Penne, Gnocchi in a Tomato and Parmesan Sauce, and Fettuccini with Prosciutto and Peas in a Cream Sauce. For delicious meat or fish dishes, try the catch of the day, or Prawns, sauteed in White Wine, Butter and Garlic, Filet Mignon, Veal Piccata, or the Pork Loin in a Wild Mushroom Sauce. The wine list offers California and Italian wines to complement your meal.
Parma is a cozy neighborhood Italian restaurant that I have come to love. Excellent food, reasonable, and warm welcoming staff that remembers its frequest guests. When I left SF for NYC for 2+ years, I searched Manhattan for an equal to Parma's Penne Vodka - no chance. Try it - you will love it too!
I used to live in the Marina district so my wife and I got to know the owner, his son and aaughter. The food is fantastic! I have been to a lot of North Beach restaurants and a few of them come close but they are more expensive. Go to Parma, you can't go wrong.
Ristorante Parma, is wonderful! The food is great, the service is wonderful, the whole place is magical....I love it, it might have ssomething to do with the wonderful company I had but the strawberry and chocolate dessert just melted in my moth.
Never made it as they don't take reservations, which I feel doesn't suit those that are planning a nice evening with guest to have to guess if they will get seated or not. Had to choose another...too bad.
The chicken parmesan was dry and had about a tablespoon of sauce. It came with fried potatos instead of pasta (never seen that before). The lasagna was so salty I wondered if they were covering up bad meat. We got take-out. The bread came without any butter, there were no utensils or napkins, nor additional parmesan cheese. It was also unbelievably overpriced--$34 for two lousy dishes. I would not recommend this place, nor would I return.
The food is excellent and for a great value! Great eggplant parmesan. All the pasta's are fantastic. -Never been disappointed with a single meal. However, the service isn't always the best/friendliest.
But overall, I'd say it's my favorite Italian joint in the city.
I love this place, especially as that Pietro is my uncle! He and his daughter Angela, and their staff, have a wonderful restaurant. The food is great, it's a small place with a lot of character, and I don't know anyone that has not loved their experience at Ristorante Parma. I don't live in California, so unfortunately, I can only eat there about once every few years, but it is always memorable.
