The sleek dining room done in Asian ultra-modern is a setting designed not to distract diners from the delicious fusion of East and West to be found here. The ingredients, from the shops in Chinatown, couldn't be fresher and the day's menu is often planned by the couple, Angela and Larry Tse, who run this place around what they find there. The braised catfish is always a treat. The place is usually packed with a mix of locals and tourists who get the royal treatment from the well-trained wait staff.
I went back to The House this weekend. I had been there once before (about a year ago) and I remember the food to be much better last time. The restaurant is Asian fusion. I had the sea bass with garlic noodles, my gf had the ahi tuna and we started with the salmon roll. The food was all presented very well. There just wasn't anything special about the food this time. Last time I remember I was raving about it and wanted to go back right away but this time I just didn't really taste anything special.
Some other people we went with ordered the squab and the steak. That looked pretty good but I don't know how it tasted.
The apple crumb pie with ice cream is good. That was probably the highlight of my meal.
Read great reviews and went for lunch. Service was indifferent and food was bland. The salmon rolls were good but greasy. The noodles with overcooked pork were bland. The special- Short ribs sandwich was only l/2 a sandwich and very greasy. Disappointing. Service was indifferent and slow. Very very noisy.
This restaurant is one of the first restaurants to provide California cuisine in San Francisco. Food is consistently delicious. The service is friendly. It is a great neighborhood restaurant and it makes you keep on coming back.
