Great Eastern Restaurant

Description

The ornate Asian-style facade of Great Eastern Restaurant leads to a sleek dining room, accented in deep jade green, lacquered black and polished brass. Only the freshest seafood is served in this upscale eatery and the proof is in the fish tanks, where future entrees swim serenely. Perfect preparations for everything that swims include salt bake, sautee, clay pot roasting, stuffing, pan fry, and simple steam. Meat, foul, vegetables and reptiles (do not miss the turtle soup) rendered with equal aplomb.

I havent been lately, going to go tomorrow. A local took me here a while back. Hands down the best hot and sour soup I ever ate anywhere. We bought the like gallon size take out and ate more the rest of the week. Also had amazing crab, cooked perfectly with a garlic spice and many other delightful items we chose. I really recommend this place!

I live in Nob Hill and im not a tourist so im familiar with Chinatown. I love this place because compared to all the OTHER restaurants, this one serves dimsum the way I like it. The next best one is the dimsum place at Kearny and Commercial st (More expensive tho). Ive taken friends and family who have never been to Chinatown and i get positive reviews from them. This is my tourist spot every time i get visitors...it has never failed me yet. Better go early since dimsum is fresh (of course! this should be a given) and if youre not happy with the way they cook it..tell them to redo it and they will be more than happy to do so. Based on experience, other dimsum places ive been to were WAAAAY dirtier than what other ppl say this is. They change the white linen sheets EVERY time a new customer comes in. You dont see that in a lot of dimsum restaurants...oh, and im compulsive about cleaniness..so yeah...lol Feel free to post response to this and let me know how your experience went. Thanks!

Went to Chinatown restaurant last week and nothing but bad surprises. Out of four meals, two came out uncooked. Cheap meal since we never got other two dinners-waiter forgot then brought out wrong orders. Found restaurant to be poorly run, dirty, and a step below other SF chinese restaurants.

I've hadd the pleasure of having dinner here twice. This is one of the best and most consistent Chinese restaurants in SF, especially if you're a seafood lover. There are more sophisticated Asian restaurants in the city but Great Eastern doesn't disappoint.

I have been eating at Great Eastern for many years. One of the very good restaurants in San Francisco's Chinatown. Their Dim Sum is excellant and also you should order from their a la carte menu. I recommend their fish dishes. Great Eastern is on Jackson. For another very good place walk south on Grant and then left on Washington, continue east on Washington and cross Kearney. Opposite the Hilton on Washington is Louies Restaurant. This is probably my favorite Dim Sum. Also an extensive and delicious a la carte menu.

Best Dum Sum
By ,
Great Eastern has the best dimsum in San Francisco. Not only does the food arrive freshly prepared to your table, not off of carts steered by crabby women, but the food is GREAT!!!! My favorite chinese restaurant by far.

Things have changed- LOUSY

This restaurant had the worst service of any I have gone to. Preferential treatment to regulars. We were seated and waited 20 minutes for water/menus and another 15 for our order to even be taken while others arrived after ys and had food/drinks on table before they sat down. We had no waiter assigned to us. Food was bland and no one cared that we were unhappy. Even tea had no taste and DO NOT ORDER SPECIAL HOUSE SOUP - definitely was luke warm dishwater. Seafood dishes were better. I highly recommended not going to this restaurant.
