Rising Star Chef Nominee by the James Beard Foundation, Founder Chef Luke Sung, at Isa has received many accolades from five consecutive years on the Chronicle's Top 100 Bay Area Restaurant List to the Top 40 in Zagat. This is a restaurant not to be missed in San Francisco.
Pros: very good food (esp. the scallops and foie gras)
Cons: pricey (billed as a tapas place but with near entree prices), relatively limited wine list, lacked ambience
Go back? yes, but not in a hurry
My compliments to the chef on the cuisine - I'd say 5 of the 7 dishes we ordered were good or very good. But I'm not sure the food was quite good enough to justify the high prices. I also found the ambience (we were in the back room tent) to be somewhat uninspiring.
The food is delicious (the chicken is my favorite restaurant dish in San Francisco), the ambiance is stunning (back heated tented patio with plants and candles), the wait staff is accommodating...I can't say anything wrong about Isa. Lux, their sister restaurant down the street, is fabulous too. Both places are just casual enough and just formal enough. Perfect balance.
Great date place. Be sure to sit outside. It's covered by a tent and they have heat lamps but it is definitely a better atmosphere outside than inside. It's tapas which are all very good. Service is great and it's relatively easy to get a reservation.
Went here with a friend visiting from out of town and we had a great experience. Service was very attentive, didn't have problems getting a table on a Tuesday night, and would recommend the outdoor seating for ambience. Food was tasty and the bill wasn't unreasonable given we ordered 5 dishes and 2 desserts. Went with a friend, but definitely think it gets extra points as a date place.
