North Beach Pizza

Description

The atmosphere at this casual spot could be described as comfortable funky and the service as indifferent, but then again it is not exactly the Four Seasons. It is a pizza joint. Garlic is the topping of choice here and one North Beach knows how to work into a slice or whole pizza to delight a garlic lover. The Coit Tower and the North Beach are both great specialty pizzas which use garlic to great effect. Opens daily 9am.

Shockingly bad. Poor quality `dough cakes` is the best I can describe this feeble attempt at a pizza. Tasteless and 99% dough that took way over 30 minutes to serve it up - and this was on a quiet Monday evening with only 3 tables busy. Service would have been better if they'd fired the waitress and let you order yourself. I think this is the first time I've never left any tip in a restaurant but I was insulted by being charged for this muck. I'll give one star as the only positive I can add is that at least the place is clean!

I had dinner there a couple of nights ago; and I am still bothered by the service my sister and I received from the waitress. I should say I was bothered by the lack of service. I ordered an $18 small pizza at the front counter, and then we decided to eat inside the actual restaurant since it was cold and rainy outside. We practically begged the young lady AKA waitress for two glasses of water. For the next 30 minutes, she proceeded to ignore my sister and I. It was blatant discrimination. We were the only customers of color that evening (Wednesday, March 23, 2011, 6PM). In addition to our table, there were three more tables with customers. She went to each table and asked how they were doing. She did this 3 more times. Not once did she come over to see how we were doing or ask us how the pizza was. I was going to give her a tip, but I was upset with being ignored the whole time. I am not sure what was up with this girl. My sister thought it was a racial thing. The other tables all had people of Caucasian decent. Who knows? I did not appreciate the horrible service and it left a bad taste in my mouth. The pizza was ok, but I will never go back there again. I wanted to speak to her manager, but I did not feel like getting into it since we were going to see Beach Blanket Babylon. Luckily we had a fantastic time at the show; and did not let a rude waitress ruin our evening. If I could, I would give it minus stars for crappy service.

Chicago Pizza in San Mateo is the second best pizza, the first is Pizza Joe's in Pasadena Ca. Notable mention, Mama patrillo's Pizza in San Gabriel Ca.

Typically undercooked cheese and crust in order to rush their orders out the door. Several better options available in SF.

Not bad, but not a gourmet pizza place. More just a local place to grab something to eat. The quality is consistently fine. The crust tends to be on the chewy side, which is OK if you like your pizza that way. The sauce is pretty good, but not as fresh tasting as I prefer, and I think that it could use some more basil and more garlic. It doesn't need any more salt. My ex girlfriend loved the place, but my current girlfriend isn't so hot on it - there is a place in San Jose that she says is MUCH better, but I haven't been there yet. We'll see. I tend to go here just because I like being in North Beach, and I can't eat Chinese food three meals a day, every day....

The Pizza is okay. No need to get technical. There are better places that's for sure. PEEZAPHACE
