I have traveled extensively during my career, at times more than I would like. Being a seafood fan, I have enjoyed literally hundreds of meals at seafood restaurants from Homer AK to Miami, and New York to Los Angeles. You can pay more than Scoma's for decor and ambiance but you risk stuffy and austentatious presentation over relaxed good eating. Several reviews posted here have lamented the wait time for a table. Yet the relaxed bar views of the bay, and the unrushed treatment I receive in the dining room are both charming and rare to find in a waterfront restaurant located in a world class city. It's the very thing that keeps people waiting in the bar, and keeps me coming back every time I find myself in San Francisco..
Scoma's food is comparable to the very best seafood restaurants in the country. My favorite menu items are the Lobster Bisque, and the Broiled Colassal Prawns and Dry-pack Scallops Alla Gannon entre. The scallops and vegetables are fresh and sweet. This is a feast to be savored, not rushed. Other delicious meals include the Lobster Thermidor, Marinated Cracked Crab Alla Venturi, Lobster Ravioli, and the Shellfish Saute Sec.
For my money, Scoma's is a great choice of places to eat in San Francisco.
