Wonderful food and History
I have eaten at the Grotto many, many times. I have never ordered the same thing twice, and have always been more than pleased. The one thing that I do order every time is the crab cocktail, yummy!!! The shrimp louie is the best, and the steaks as well as sea food are excellent!! The menu has just about everything on it and will make anyone happy. I recomend the dungeoness crab over the lobster as it is a local sea food. I've read a few of the comments left by a couple people that were not very happy. My impression was that they have never been anywhere but a McDonalds fast food and wouldn't know good food if it were free. Maybe they should try the Olive Garden where everything tastes the same. What they orderd at the Warf should have been ordered in Maine not San Francisco. This in itself should tell anyone reading these reviews what to pay attention to. The other thing to remember is you are in the most famous location in San Francisco and there are a ton of tourists every day of the year! The chowder, either red or white are made fresh daily and have a wonderful flavor. My fillet was perfect, and my broiled petroli was out of this world. You may even like to try some of the cheese ravioli with parmesan over it. All I can tell the readers is to not be affraid to order something you've never tried as it will be very exciting. The service is top notch and with the number of years these servers have in the restaurant business you should be sure to ask their recomendation of the day. Enjoy your meal and the surroundings. History has been made there and more will be made the night you have supper.
P.S. Treat yourself, don't order fried. Try food with flavor and character!!
