Fishermen s Grotto
By ,
I have been eating at the Fishermen s Grotto over the past twenty years. Something has happened in 2013. The food has always been way overpriced ($10 for a small Caesar salad, practically $20 for spaghetti), but the service had been relatively decent. My last experience, on the evening of 03/28/13, hit rock bottom. No one came over to take our order. A fellow dinner had to call out to get any attention. Service was slow, although there were few people in the restaurant.. We couldn t even get anyone to take money for the bill. We finally got up and walked with the bill to the cash register. Our waiter eventually came out and grumpily rang up the bill. In future, we re going to try Alioto s next door.

One of the worst dining experience we have encountered in all the years we have been going to San Francisco. I ordered the halibut special and my wife ordered saute prawns . What we received was old mashed potatoes, carrots and broccoli that did not taste real . The halibut was an over dry piece with some type of orange sauce on top. It looked like something you would order in the IKEA cafeteria. My wifes prawns were so rubbery we could have played soccer with them . The waiter had the manager come to our table and we explained that we could not justify the price tag for the food that was served. He blankly stared at us with no words or apology. He picked up the plates and walked away and went into the kitchen and then came out and went the other way! Wow!!!! We both agreed that he could use a visit from Gorden Ramsey

My favorite! I always eat here once every time I come out to SF, it's a must. The crab spaghetti is my ultimate favorite. A very cute place, nice dining, great view, a bit pricey but worth every penny. My mouth is watering now just thinking about it...

Pricy but good food. I like the crab sandwich and clam chowder! Also centered in the heart of the wharf. Give it a try. Parking validated.

Great Clam Chowder
By ,
Everytime I go up to San Francisco for a visit, I make it a must for my friends and I to stop by this place for Clam Chowder. It is yummmmmy. If you want some appetizers, try thier mesquite shrimp. It is very plumped and juicy with a perfect tasting mesquite flavor.

A customer since the beginning, still going back

Our entire family has enjoyed dining here since the 40's. Many members of our family have passed on but those of us that remain always look forward to a wonderful place to dine where memories of the early days abound. Highly recommended by the Roe Family of South San Francisco, Ca.

Wonderful food and History
By ,
I have eaten at the Grotto many, many times. I have never ordered the same thing twice, and have always been more than pleased. The one thing that I do order every time is the crab cocktail, yummy!!! The shrimp louie is the best, and the steaks as well as sea food are excellent!! The menu has just about everything on it and will make anyone happy. I recomend the dungeoness crab over the lobster as it is a local sea food. I've read a few of the comments left by a couple people that were not very happy. My impression was that they have never been anywhere but a McDonalds fast food and wouldn't know good food if it were free. Maybe they should try the Olive Garden where everything tastes the same. What they orderd at the Warf should have been ordered in Maine not San Francisco. This in itself should tell anyone reading these reviews what to pay attention to. The other thing to remember is you are in the most famous location in San Francisco and there are a ton of tourists every day of the year! The chowder, either red or white are made fresh daily and have a wonderful flavor. My fillet was perfect, and my broiled petroli was out of this world. You may even like to try some of the cheese ravioli with parmesan over it. All I can tell the readers is to not be affraid to order something you've never tried as it will be very exciting. The service is top notch and with the number of years these servers have in the restaurant business you should be sure to ask their recomendation of the day. Enjoy your meal and the surroundings. History has been made there and more will be made the night you have supper. P.S. Treat yourself, don't order fried. Try food with flavor and character!!

The best in the West
By ,
I have been eating at Fishermans Grotto since the early 60's. This is a place my Family has always gone to on special occasions. I couldn't imagin going to the Grotto and ordering fish and chips. This is a high class place, not H. Salt Esq. The service is first class and the food, although more expensive than some nation wide chain, is not priced out of reach. Try the Chef's Special salad for the most amazing meal on the menu. The lobster, crab and shrimp are first rate.
