Chevys, San Francisco

I don't know about other Chevy's. But his particular one in Stonestown is fairly nice. It's more cafeteria than restaurant. And your waiters can change by the minute (same with the Olive Garden, next door). It's next to a college (SF State).. But the food is good. And for a franchise, you actually get a lot for the money. The sizzling platters are nice. You can keep cooking the food (lots of onions). The taco meat, etc, isn't quite as good. But if you stick to their steak and chicken platters, grilled shrimp, samples, it's good. A plate of their grilled shrimp, if you might get a special order, would be really nice. Overall, you feel the bill should be a little more, every time. It's hectic. It can be noisy. They do that birthday sing for the kids. It can be sweltering in summer. But it's more a lunch or late afternoon cafeteria, with I think very tasty food, and plenty of it, certainly for the price.

I think it's really some type of scheme they have going when there are a slew of tables available and they tell incoming patrons that there's anywhere from a 15-20 minute wait. Maybe they want a constant line outside to fool everyone that they're that popular. What's worse, we elected to sit at the bar section for immediate service and our waiter was alright at first, then 15 minutes into our meal, he proceeded to pester us every 3 minutes that he can give us the bill anytime. Ok, I get it, after the 6th time he said it, we gave up and asked for the bill. Ridiculous!

Yeah, they're a chain - with all the charm, authenticity, and yummy food only a chain can provide. But besides all that, they do serve a purpose. That is -- if ya wanna get drunk, but not rolling, getting thrown off an establishment drunk, then Chevy's is the place to go. Kinda like a bar, except without the bar, hit on you, eww, icky bar scene. Yeah, they have their purpose.
